Question about HP PL4260N 42 in. Plasma HDTV

1 Answer

My HP Plasma is about 4 years old. Picture was great, until one day I turned it on and 75% had not color. The rest had picture and almost looked like it was going to come back on but no such luck. I asked local TV repairman, he said white board was issue, would cost $250 to maybe fix it. Any suggestions where I can buy this part myself and try to fix it?

    Hardmoneywar,

I just had exactly the same thing happen with my PL4260N yesterday. Was watching CSI, when I heard a click like the power turning off and my screen dimmed by about 1/2 and lost some colors. Can you let me know if the solution fixed the problem?

I am having a very similar problem, in which I am stuck in standby mode. I know this is a post from 2010, but if anybody has the know-hows of these 2006 plasma screen HPs please, let me know.

I don't see STANDBY on the remote. Where do I find it? Should the TV be off?

My ten year old sony plasma tv has vertical herring bone lines no picture just color lines. Is my picture tube gone.

If its 10 years old boards and or parts will likely not be available--average life on Plasma and LCD sets is 3-5 years.

I would retire it--recycle it and buy a new set.

Your plasma screen is made up of 1080 verticle lines and now a few of these lines are not working. This is the screen itself and needs replacing.

P42HDTV Visio Plasma TV. The picture is bad grainy/snowy.

Doing some warranty work for Visio, I ran into this same problem. I replaced the video and power boards, among other things. Turned out to be a bad panel, which isnt viable to replace. Best to get Visio to agree they made a lemon (as all their products are in my humble opinion) and have them send you a new tv, or even better, buy a tv that is NOT a visio. You can get great deals on LG and Samsung these days, both decent quality tvs.

16 yr old 25" Zenith..1st colors went yellow/lime now TV is dead

Absolutely not worth repair. You have described a classic symptom of Zenith picture tube failure, and about 99% of the time the main board in the TV is ruined as well. You've gotten good life from the set (manufacturers figure tube life is around 7 years these days), so it's time to replace it.

Picture darker/less color/smaller until warm up

Hi there!
Have you checked for dust on the Tubes and mirror? This may cause a bad picture quality. Also power supply related problems like capacitors can cause a dark picture. Try replacing some of them in the power supply area and line stage. Also adjustments in the service mode, but for this you will need the service manual. Good Luck,JUS004
