Hi, I have a 6 year old 43" Phillips rear projection tv. Its doing some wierd stuff. It will turn on by itself. I can turn it off again and it will turn itself back on again. The second thing that started this week was a very dark screen. The screen was blue at start up and is now a brown color. Is it just time for a new tv or is this fixable???

That is a common issue with the last generation of the phillips big screens, the best answer for this is one that i got at a meeting with phillips service several years ago. On philips the tv will not show a picture till the tubes are balanced out, simular to sony, but in a phillips if the white balance is not correct the picture and sound will be muted till all three tubes have warmed up enough to produce a good white balance. As the set ages the tubes become weaker and this procesess takes longer.
You have problem with convergence. Have you tried adjusting in the users menu. This is a common problem in this type of TV, usually two convergence amp need to be replaced and sometimes sets of resistors are also to be changed.
you need the DPTV305 - Dptv345 Convergence repair kit available at the following link. Its listed under the convergence repair kits category, comes with all parts and step by step instructions with pictures so you can do the repair yourself.
