this is because the "HOLD" button on the player is turned on. When the "HOLD" button is on, nothing responds on the player.
Check the button next to the On/Off power button, you should find the "Hold" there. Push it to the off direction or turn it off and the player will respond well again once the hold function is off. If you don't find the hold button beside the power button, check the other side(s) of the player and you should find the "Hold" there.
