Dear, this is not a very common problem but unfortunately it happens sometimes when an internal overheat occur.
The PS3 red light issue and the PS3 yellow light of death are two names for the same problem of red blinking light. This occurs in case of a heavy workload on the console at a time. Like, this might happen when you are playing graphic intensive games. Sometimes a damaged hard-drive can also lead to this problem. When this problem occurs, your PS3 will beep three times and then the red LED will start blinking. Next time you turn on the PS3, first the green LED will switch 'on', which will turn yellow for a second, and then the red light starts flashing. Before you contact the Sony technical support, you may want to give a look at this Fixya DIY guide: http://www.fixya.com/support/r5072723-red_flashing_lights_fix Good luck Peter

Most likely its over heating or has over heated , it may also need a cleaning ,never set anything on your ps3 it has to breath,u can unplug carefully take the cover off slowly and look for dust build up on the board ,dont touch the board use a vacuum hold it 8 inches away from it and clean it, dust will act as a conductor, and short out the board causing it to power down, the second u turn it on..hope it helps,if not take it to a repair shop

SOURCE: My ps3 had a flashing

Hello there corbie dadd

If you have the brief flashing yellow light, then its followed by a red blinking light then you have the yellow light of death AKA the YLOD.

The lights are a warning sign to let you know something is wrong. I can give you the quick explanation, There are 2 chips on the motherboard inside the PS3, the GPU (graphics) and the CPU (brain), when playing the ps3 the solder heats up and when you finish playing it cools down, over time this will cause the soldering to crack and the chips to lose connection with the motherboard and you get the YLOD.

WHERE TO GO FROM HERE

Option 1 - Call Sony

In warranty the Price is Free, out of warranty the Price is $150, the whole process is 4-6 weeks

You can call Sony and they will collect the PS3, repair/replace, and deliver the PS3 back to you

Option 2 - Fix it your Self

You can use a PS3 fix manual to get this fixed easily and at home using household tools you probably already own.

Click here to know more on PS3 Fix Manuals which has helped so many people like you.

Good luck

Best regards

Peter

As flashing red light

Flashing red light indicates a hard ware problem.

In MOST cases it's a problem with the PS3 motherboard. You can try booting without the hard drive inside, but it's rarely the cause.

Time to call Sony. 1-800-345-SONY
