Question about Nitro Boating
Have a 02 Mercury 200hp ME200L motor. Work fine for 3-4 years, kept yearly maintanance on it. Last few years, having problem with slugging down when taking off after using motor. It's like when it gets to hot it doesn't want to take off. After keeping throttle down and working with it, it finally gets out of hole but very difficult. Had techs look at it in our area, but no one seems to be capable of repairing the problem. Help!
I would say its the coil from the "heat sink" that it goes through after shutdown. The mechanics probably can not duplicate your "ON WATER" conditions in a shop. They probably take off the hood cover for access, run it in a tank without the load of the boat, or just use the "Muffs" with no resistance on the prop or engine at all.
You may also be fuel starved. The checkvalves in the fuellines may be allowing the fuel to siphon back to the tank. The engine takes off good until the float chambers run dry, then you are trying to pull the fuel up and there is a lag. When you are "Working with the throttle" you are regulating the throttle opening to match available fuel. Also check the fuel screens if a Tech has not done so. Would be interested to know outcome.
