Storing information in separate partitions helps you organize and protect your data, safely run multiple operating systems, and reclaim wasted disk space.

My 320GB Hard disk is detected in bios not detecting in windows. what to do please suggest.

Hi
Go to the Device Manager and do a "Search for plug and play devices." If it does not find the unit, take the drive out, and reboot the machine (assuming it isn't the boot drive). Do a shut down, then reinstall the unit. I don't think you'll have to do that, otherwise the system just doesn't recognize the file system. You may have to format and re partition the drive to make it usable. Back up any information from a different pc if you have access to it before you format.
Hope this helps

Yes you can use programs like Partition Magic that allows you to create, resize and merge partitions on your hard drive without destroying data. It can also help organize and protect your data, run multiple operating systems, convert file system types and fix partition table errors.

Computer goes to blue screen when turned on.

Windows need at least 50 to 60MB just to function this does not include windows swap file.
Windows will not go to D drive for this space.
You have two options. Buy a larger primary hard disk drive for windows and all your data.
Two, delete D drive partition. Personally I would buy a 250GB or 300GB drive and install windows fresh. Once windows is installed and updated I would jumper the old primary drive to function as a slave drive and connect it into the system. By doing this you will not loose any data from the old primary disk drive. You can copy most of you're data to the new drive but will still have to reinstall other programs.
Lastly you can reduce the D drive partition. To do this click start and type diskmgmt.msc into the run window. Delete the D drive. Windows will add the freed space to C drive after a reboot.

Good luck!
Mike

My PC has a 70 gig hard drive Its partitioned into C and D C is full How do I remove the partion? Thanks Jim

Hi,

If the drive is too full delete something that you can live without. Click on the link i have provided below, download and install Easeus Partition Manager. This tool will help you to re-size or merge the C drive to expand hard drive space and it only takes between 5 and 10 minutes to learn and execute.

Please let me know how you get on or if you need anymore help.

Good luck.

Long periods of hard drive activity

Most likely, it could be the amount of ram you have in your computer. If your running low on ram and it is using the virtual memory your computer can be running all the time causing a slow down in whatever you do. Check to see how much ram you have :)

Full Hard drive

you can merge to partitions on a single disk, although this should be one of your last resorts. when two partitions are created on a single drive the OS recognizes the two partitions as two seperate drives. From win xp pro, you can access all the data on the partition with xp home platform. the second partition will take up close to a gig of space that could be used. the simplest way would be to creat shortcuts to the programs you want in the partition for xp pro. then right click my computer> properties> advanced> start up and recovery settings> select win xp as the default OS and deselect the box marked "time to display operating systems"

this will stop that annoying 30 sec pause that you get when you start your computer asking which OS you want to run.

or if you seriously want to merge the two, here is a link with a download that will help.....download this file and creat an disk to insert into the disk drive and restart to load from the disk
http://download2.lsoft.net/BootDiskDemo-Setup.exe

the only thing is that if you write over or delete files that those programs need to run smoothly, you will have to reinstall them completely. in which case you would be just as well off to back up your info and do a clean install. i trust you will be able to determin which solution is best for you needs.
Personally if i had programs i wanted to save, i would take the first option and just have two partitions

I have a acer aspire 5050 laptop/notebook and everytime I try to watch a video on youtube or just serach the internet, it's slow and the wors, "low on disk space" pop up. I click the clean disk...

Acer partition thir drives as standard install.....open my computer and you should see a C drive and drive called data (probably E drive)...when the C drive is low on space windows doesn´t have enough room for a swap file and really slows up......move some of your less used files from My Documents to the Data drive by cuttting and pasting......Make sure you leave at least 700mb free on your C drive so windows can work normally
Also go into internet options in control panel in the general tab under browsing history click setting....where it says disk space to use lower the value to around 300mb....click ok and close window....this should free up a bit more disk space

Regards

Cant reboot win.98se after using partition magic 6.0 to merge adjacent partition to c. drive

how large the capacity of your hard disk drive? it is possible that would be the problem it is too dangerous that it will lead your hard disk to crash the system and damage the disk itseld that can create bad sectors on your disk. If you want to partition your hard drive, run the FDISK utility instead.
