I need to replace the door handle and choke cover 120v

I need to replace the door handle and choke cover. First time when taking choke cover off all the clips broke off but had enough to put back. After getting the choke cover of i noticed the where the handle screws are, the top is visible but the bottom one is covered by the plate that i guess holds the glass. Fixed it with epoxy last time, but now the top broke, how to I get to that bottom screw?

SOURCE: Handle broke and can't screw in the bottom screw of the new handle

bottom plate of the handle has a keyhole shape in the door-face of it
to go over a mushroom headed screw already secured in the door
tap the old broken handle down the door and it will pop off the screwhead
then
set the new handle sideways on the door, top end out into empty space, and pull it into place on the screw head,
rotate the handle top over the door and screw it into place, dont flex the handle much to twist it in place, they are brittle, and break

SOURCE: How to Replace Broken Handle

Sorry but the chat system seems slow and hard to work with.

Page 28 & 29 of the service manual tell you how to remove the door and take it apart to replace the handle.

The service manual is here.

And you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) that demonstrates how it's done.

SOURCE: GE Microwave model JVM1650CH01. Trying to replace door handle

Hi,
This image might help. If not it looks like you have to disassemble the door until you get to the very outer frame, as that is where the handle screws are

Lift the door off the bottom bracket, and remove it. 4. Place the oven door front side down on a padded surface. 5. Remove the choke screws from the door frame. 6. Starting at the top right corner, pry the choke cover out with a putty knife, and unsnap it from the choke. Only remove the top, bottom and right sides of the choke cover at this time. Starting at the top edge of the door near the center and working clockwise, use a putty knife, and pry the latching tabs of the choke out of the door frame slots. Lift the choke as you release the tabs so they do not snap back into the slots. Replacing a handle on a kitchenaide microwave

Hello

Unplug the microwave oven from its power outlet or turn off its circuit breaker. Remove the right fuse from the home fuse-box if your microwave is a built-in model.

Open the microwave door and take the top pin off its pivot bracket. Lift up the door and remove it from the bottom bracket. Lay the microwave door with its front side down on a folded towel. Remove the two choke screws from the door frame using a Phillips head screwdriver.

Remove the choke cover with the knife blade, starting from the microwave door's top right corner. Pry out the bottom and top right sides, leaving the side which houses the door handle in place.

Remove the choke tabs from their slots on the microwave door frame using the knife blade. Continue to work clockwise around your microwave door; remove the choker cover when you get to your handle's side to separate it from your choke.

Remove the two handles with the Phillips screwdriver. Remove the handle from the microwave.

Screw the new handle in the position of the original handle. Lay the choke on the microwave door; set the choke cover right on top of it. Insert the choke tabs into their slots on the microwave door frame using the knife blade.

Secure the two choke screws using a Phillips head screwdriver; set the microwave door back on the bottom bracket. Slide the top pin into the microwave's pivot bracket.

Press the top pin down until it pops securely into place.

I got the screws off for the door handle on the ACO1860AS Microwave but the handle will still not come off. Is there another mechanisme or hidden screw that needs to come out?

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

From the service manual:

Door Disassembly

1. Disconnect power to oven and remove oven door,
(see "Door Removal" procedure).

2. Pry away choke cover, by placing a tool in the upper
right corner of the door and gently prying outward on
the choke cover. Continue to work around the door
casing until choke cover is completely loose.

3. Slide latch assembly upward and to the left to
release plastic tabs from door frame. Once latch
assembly is loose the spring may be disconnected
from the door frame.

4. Remove screws securing door handle and door
frame to door panel.

5. Remove door frame by releasing tabs around entire
door panel.

Remove door handle by placing a hand on door panel
next to the top of the door handle. Twist door panel
towards the inside of door and pulling on the top
portion of the door handle in a quick jerking motion.

NOTE: When replacing door handle, the bottom portion
of the door handle must be inserted first.

ok start over
you need to be looking at the inside of the door
the frame around the glass the choke
will pop off,,
take a small flat head place it between the choke and the frame down by the hinge. pry ever so carefully it will pop out slide the screwdriver around the edge until the whole choke is dislodged
once the choke is off
you will see the two screws for the handle
you may need to lift the latch mechinism to get to the bottom one
once your done you can simply push the choke back it place you will here it snap

be careful the choke is very brittle
and will break if bent

Getting door frame apart to install new handle

If you're replacing the handle, then order the choke cover..It's the piece on the inside of the door that covers the handle screws. No matter how carefull you are, it is almost guaranteed to break. If you break it, then you have one, and if not, send it back. DO NOT OPERATE MICRO WITHOUT CHOKE COVER.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

I recommend that you do not remove the door or hinges to do the job because if it's not aligned exactly, you can have microwave leakage.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

Replacing handle on microwave

Strupes,  looks like the handle is going to screw in from the inside.  You will have to remove the choke cover.  The choke cover is on the inside of the door, about 1 to 1.5 inches wide that goes around the glass.  It will snap out using a small flat blade screw driver.  Once off you will see where the screws go to hold the handle on.   Catriver
