I understand that the Garmin GPS Receivers have batteries inside that sometimes go bad. You should be able to charge within 3 or 4 hours max. in the car before using.

They only carry a 1 year warranty, I understand. So,

the following describes how to get out of warranty service:

I will be travelling in Europe without a car and no access to a computer. Is there a plug in adaptor for charging the battery? Can the battery be replaced, as needed?

Hello,

You can purchase AC international adapters for all nuvi units, here is a link to one http://www.gpscity.ca/garmin-nuvi-zumo-international-ac-adapter.html.. For your battery it will not be able to be replaced by you the user, I only recommend replacing it through an authorized Garmin repair center.

Hope this helps!

If there are no power points in your vehicle, you might have to purchase a battery-operated powerpack and plug the GPS into that via a USB/AC adapter.

My Garmin Nuvi 360 will not work properly when the cigar adapter is plugged in. When unplugged, it works fine.

I strongly suspect that the noise-limiting capacitor on the cigar adapter is broken (burned out).
You can try to locate and replace it - or you can purchase an inexpensive power inverter - and then plug your AC charger (house power charger) in to it and off ya go... It will filter out the noise that the capacitor used to fix. Best price is either Harbor Freight (on line or store), or Tiger Direct - AKA Circuit City.

When i plug in my Garmin 250 in the car it will not function until i unplug it everything else works great but will not work when plugged in the car

Do you have a factory Garmin cord?
Do you have voltage at the plug in the car?
Is the cord you are using good?
Does the cord you are using have a fuse in it?
Is it good?

Sounds like you are not getting power to the unit when plugged in.
Check all above.
and.......try another cord....try plugging into another cars plug.

I have a Garmin 760 did not come with a ac

The AC charger plugs into the mini-USB port on the bottom of the unit. The term AC is somewhat misleading as the AC charger plugs into an AC outlet but provides +5VDC to charge the units internal 3.7VDC battery.

You can purchase an OEM AC charger here:

The Garmin doesn't need to plug into anything to work normally.  Just turn it on!

Garmin NUVI 660 power problem.

To charge a nuvi, use one of the following methods:
  1. Connect the nuvi to the suction cup mount and the vehicle power cable.
  2. Connect the USB cable to the nuvi and the computer. The computer will charge the nuvi as long as the computer is on. However, the unit will be in Mass Storage Mode and normal operation is not possible.
  3. Connect the AC power cable and the nuvi to a wall outlet.
Please note: All of the nuvi series will come with a suction cup mount and vehicle power cable to charge the nuvi. However, only some of the nuvi models will come with an AC power cable and/or USB cable. If they did not come with the nuvi, they would be optional cables and would be a separate purchase. Garmin only recommends using an AC power charge that is purchased from Garmin. Third party power cables may not charge the nuvi. These cables may be purchased from Garmin or Garmin's dealers.
