Question about HP Officejet Pro L7680 All-In-One Printer

1 Answer

Everything works from my HP laptop wirelessly to my HP L7680 All-in-One (after installing the newest driver update for Win7 x64) EXCEPT I cannot print from a file on my laptop to the fax. I used to be able to fax a file without printing it out first, but that option has suddenly stopped. HP says it is not fixable. So why did it work for a few months but not now? Do you have any suggestions? P.S. When I have a document open and I pick the L7680 printer fax as my print option, the computer icon pops up on my lower task bar, but it says there are 0 items pending on the printer. It does not call up the HP Solution Center. Again, it used to!

First make sure your usb cable connect to printer from computer is working fine try it in different usb ports of computer. Then uninstall all usb drivers from computer. For that gop to start menu then type in search "run" without "' then you can see run click on run type in run "devmgmt.msc" then press enter then you can see device manager. Then uninstall all usb drivers 1 by 1 then it automatic install all usb drivers. Then uninstall printer driver from start->control panel->add remove programs then uninstall hp printer drivers then reinstall driver from disk then it will work fine. If you haven't driver disk then download it from below link. Also make sure in your printer wireless is enable if you use wireless network then make sure printer's ip is in the range of wifi. Everything else works:

I can print wirelessly from my laptop to the printer.

I can fax from my laptop if the document is already in the scanner of the printer/all-in-one

I can scan a document using my laptop if the document is in the all-in one.

The ONLY thing that does not work is when I try to print my file directly to the fax. There is not a problem with the cables.

  • For that you need to make sure that windows fax service started.
You can chekc it in services lists.
Go to run then type in run "services.msc" then press enter then you can see all lists of services.
Then right click on fax service and click on start .
if it is already started then you need to reinstall windows fax service.
For that go to control panel->add remove programs and click on windows features tun on off then select fax service and give next if it ask for windows disk then insert windows disk into cd/dvd rom then it install fax service.
Also go to control panel and printer and faxes right click on your fax printer icon then click on ports then make sure it is select as TCP ip which must be your printer network ip address.
    Then apply and then check.

I got into the services list and turned on the Fax service (it had not been on). However, it did nothing to help with the problem. Also, every time I turn off the computer, the Fax service needs to be restarted.

The fax is set up with the IP address. The fax works. The fax works when I use it alone. The fax works when I put the document in the paper reader and access it through HP Solution Center from my laptop. The fax does NOT work from the print menu of the document on my laptop.

I find it odd that it worked for months, but suddenly stopped. Has Microsoft had another update that the current HP driver has not adopted?

  • For that you need to reinstall fax service driver.
Also go to services list and right click on fax service then click on property then enable automatic then apply and check.
Then uninstall hp fax driver and software then reinstall then check.
Turn of windows firewall and antivirus firewall also install microsoft windows update.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

Questing for an SMZ1244TX v2 driver for Win7 32 bit(pref x64 but I ain't holding my breath), otherwise known as the SMC-EZ10/100 "Compaq Special". Card came out of an ancient Compaq Presario 5000 Seri

First things first, x64 is for a 64 bit platform which your OS isn't ,but secondly if this card is ancient then it probably won't be supported on that platform anyways. Lookup the driver for a x86 (yes it's a higher number but it stands for the 32 bit OS your on. Why? That's another story) once you find the x86 bit driver to install it, just put windows 7 into compatibility mode for the windows version that driver was meant for. Confirm the changes in the bios and everything should work.

Have you thought that maybe it isn't your wireless network card, but the wireless router that you are connecting too? What I would do (if you have the credentials to do so) is log into your wireless router from a laptop or desktop. Check the configuration of the router, you could have it set to to a different security setting than your laptop is set too. Or you could simply need to update the firmware of the router

You could try use the Windows XP SuperScript 870 driver or you could install the HP LaserJet III printer driver. It should work with your printer, but may have limited functionality.

I have an HP D5360 printer on a dlink dpr-1260I

I believe your suspicion of driver/Win7 problem is right on target. Many manufacturers have not created / updated hardware drivers to work under the new Windows 7 environment - which is much more security focused than past versions have been.

If the driver you downloaded from HP has not been tested and certified to work under Windows 7, then you have a slim chance of getting the printer to work correctly, if at all. If the driver has been tested and certified by HP, then I would file a trouble ticket with them, describing the problems exactly. You may have discovered a bug in their driver that they could not / did not test for.

Same BS wifi problem as everyone else

Have you tried restoring the computer back a couple of days to see if that clears up the hardware hiccup? You can also go to device manager and uninstall the device and delete the drivers. Turn the laptop off, take the wireless card out. Start the laptop back up and boot it fully....After a few, shut down again. Install the wireless card and restart the laptop. When asked to install the drivers for new device found, say ok, make sure you are online with an ethernet line so windows can go online and load the newest drivers unless you have them on your C drive already.
