Lift the scanner lid up at the back you'll find the 2 brackets that secure it from going to far these if squeezed together alow the lid to open fully. Now with a philips screw driver remove the 4/5 screws (don't drop them inside the printer) Now remove the glass and cover from the top, trace the ribbon cable to its source, mine gradually played its way free after heavy usage all it requires is firmly sliding back into its boss and also check the other end of the ribbon for mucky paper build up.
