93 Ford Taurus is skipping, has bad gas mileage, uneven acceleration, and looses power really bad. Fuel filter, plugs and wires have been changed out. Tail pipe is really black but will blow your hand off when placed on there. What else could it be?

Iam only going to guess at this one.
So have it checked out, don't take my word

If your converter is 17 years old,it may be blocked (worn out),thus lack of power.

Black Tailpipe-rich condition or prior ignition issues, before new parts went on.

Really old O2 Sensors.

Poor gas mileage on 2008 Ford taurus

Are you using the correct grade of fuel.
Manufacturers claim that a car will do 28 to the gallon.
This is done under ideal conditions at a constant speed on a rolling road.
Wind, hills, overtaking and tire pressures will decrease fuel mileage.
Your car is ok. Don`t expect much more unless you want to drive at 56mph
good luck
