My laptop will freeze when the battery comes into action alone, but when the mains is plugged in and no battery is existent, the computer works without any problems. Any ideas please?

The battery settings seem fine to me: there isn't any sleep function or functions that seem out of hand. I happen to be outside Acer's warranty of one year.

It sounds like your computer's battery settings are messed up. First, check your battery settings. Perhaps they are somehow set to put your computer to sleep when battery power comes on. If that's not the problem, go to device manager, open batteries, and look at the properies of everything there to be sure all is working. If nothing appears wrong, update or replace the drivers from your manufacurer's website if available there. It looks like you have an Acer--I know thatthey have some battery recalls out. Let me know how it goes. If you are in warranty, get help from Acer: Acer's basic service availability period, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (CST), Monday through Friday. Acer Customer Service at (800) 816-2237. If you get someone who says to reintall everything instead of addressing your problem itself, demand to speak to a supervisor (this happened to me) who knows what's what.

BTW, Computer companies like to sell you expensive batteries. You must always remove your battery while you are plugged in, or you will greatly reduce its lifetime of about 300 or so full charges. Also, to break a new battery in properly, so thatit will take a full charge, charge it for at least 15 hours, then let it completely drain and recharge 3 times. (that's in your Acer manual.) let me know what happens.

Try system restore back to a time when your battery charged properly (I assume that all was well until you went out of warranty). If that doesn't fix it, go to control panel, then click systems, then device manager, then open batteries, and click on "general" to see if it says it is working properly. Same with microsoft AC adaptor. If both say they are working properly, first click on the driver for microsoft ACPI-compliant control method battery, then uninstall it, then reboot your computer. The driver will automatically reinstall from your installation software in the hidden partition; if the old driver was corrupted, it will then be fixed. it may take several minutes--wait for a notice that the installation has completed. Then check to see if your battery now charges in your computer. If not, I'd try the same thing with the microsoft AC adaptor driver. Let me know what happens.

I forgot to mention that even out of warranty, go to Acer and see what upgrades they claim to have for your model--particularly e-power management. (Be carefull--some which they say are for Vista are for XP, and vice versa.) If there is one, give it a try.
