Question about Acomdata (HD250UE5-72) (HD250UE572) 250 GB Hard Drive

1 Answer

This is an external hard drive that I have not used for a couple of years. My computer which it worked with before (an HP Pavillion) does not see the external hard drive and while the light on the hard drive is on, there is no sound from the drive.

    Not a fix, but I'm quite sure an accurate analysis.

Hi! Please try replacing the usb cable. The cable may be corroded causing the external hard drive not to be detected by the pc. Hope this helps and have a good one!

    How bout connecting it on a different usb port. Try using the rear usb port and see how it goes.

  • mmcgloin Aug 02, 2010

    Already tried that, and tried with a different computer as well.

    Ok, I believe that the hard drive reached its break point causing it to fail. I guess its time to purchase a new one.

    How I wish I can revive the hard drive to save you some money but I guess it reached its time.

Sometimes it is easier to install a new hard disk and reinstall Windows.
Then either connect the old hard drive as a slave drive (don't forget to set the jumper on this drive as a slave). The other way is to connect the old hard drive to a USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port. this computer will see it as an external hard drive (provided the hard drive is still functioning).
Either way you can download and backup your files.

Transfer data from a dead laptop to a new laptop

Do you have a usb to SATA connector? If so you can plug the old drive into the USB slot and it will act as a slave so you can pull the contents from the old drive to the new. The adapter is about 25.00 or If it was me I would invest into a pocket USB hard drive case that you can put your old drive into perminatly so you can always have a external hard drive for back up later after yo uhave moved the data over and reformatted it. The case is $25-$40.00.

Black screen for hp laptop

Hi,

Initially, a couple of ideas ou may want to explore:
  • hook an external monitor. Often there would be a VGA connector at the rear of a laptop specifically for this purpose. It would need a standard 15 video cable normally attached or with the external monitor. You may need to cycle through Fn + F? keys to enable the external monitor. F? would be the function key with the small monitor icon;
  • remove the hard disk of the erring laptop, connect it to a 2.5 to USB adapter and attach to a free USB port of a 2nd computer. it will be treated as an external storage device much like a thuimb/flash drive and therefore would allow copy and paste;
  • tap on the cover of the laptop, the one right behind the LCD screen anywhere on the sides, this is in the hope that it is a cold solder or loose connection;
  • run the laptop with the lid not fully opened;
  • slightly warp/twist the lid/LCD, it could just be a loose connection;
  • if the display works even just momentarily, then chances are that no major repair work is required. The bulk of the job would be in the opening and offhand, no major component replacement.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
