SOURCE: looks like battery problem...

Take it to a local Jeweler or closes retail store and asked them to test your battery.  If its not that there could be a glitch in the watch itself.

Bought a Seiko 6N42 for my husband. We cannot get it to start. We've shaken it and the hands will not move.We were given a manual for a 5 so we're not sure these instructions work for his 6.Can U help

Take it to a jeweller, it sounds like it needs a new battery. $6 to $8 whilst you wait.

No point shaking it as it OUGHT to be electric quartz movement.

Timex electric watc will only tick for few seconds when shaken

Battery watches don't normally restart with a shake unless the warmth of you hand has squeezed a little more of a reaction out of the cell. Are you absolutely sure its electric? they don't normally tick as such. If you turn the winder when pushed in is ther resistance one way and clicking ratchet the other? if so you have a mechanical watch if not you probably have a battery watch that needs a new battery.

Why does my seiko sne039 only work in direct light and the second hand advances 2 seconds with each movement

Its ticking in two second intervals because it is very low on power. It should keep correct time and eventually settle down. It needs a long exposure to a nice bright sunny day and it will be fine once it has a good charge for definate.

Self-winding Seiko watch stops ticking.

Take it in to a watch repairer. Sounds like the self-winding spring is worn if not so then the watch repaier will find the problem. There is nothing you can do so do not attempt to fix it.

I have a sportura when i dont wear it the time stops but the alarm clock keeps correct time had battey checked it is fine

I have a Seiko arctura and it stops after three days if it is not used. This is done to preseve the life of the battery.

When I pick it up and shake it gently for a few seconds, it returns to the correct time.

I think it is likely that you should do the same.

10 year old Seiko Kinetic (model5M62-0B00) blue face. Last week stopped and after some shaking started again but seconds moved in 2 sec intervals for a few hours. Went OK for a week and again last night...

After 10 years it will be likely that the Kinetic capacitor will need upgrading. Your watch is designed to tick in two second intervals to tell you the power is very low. The power button will work again when it has some power to show. Yorkshire Watches www,yorkshirewatches.co.uk can do the upgrade for you if your in the UK. Give them a ring.

Seiko SGF204 second hand hesitates or jumps a second and looses probably 10 minutes an hour. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

When the watch jumps a second or seems to stop then tick twice, it indicates that the battery is low. You will need to take your watch to have the battery replaced.
