My asus p5vdc-x flashes the asus motherboard screen, beeps once, and then goes to an all black screen with a blinking cursor and doesn't boot up vista. It worked fine yesterday, when I started it up and I...

That blinking cursor is the way in which the BIOS is telling you that Windows is missing - its most critical, core files have been corrupted beyond repair. The only thing you can do is to reinstall using the recovery cd or your own Windows install disk.

Computer problem

that is your DOS prompt
Try typing at the black cursor (chkdsk /r <ENTER> <Y> <ENTER> REstart the PC)
If that does not work
Shut down PC
F8 on boot get back to Advanced boot option
SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING
Sign in as ADMIN or Owner
say yes to get to Desktop
Once you get to the Desktop

Try removing your AGP card and enabling the onboard graphics again. It is possible your Radeon is a 3.3v, but this board only supports 1.5v cards. Take a look at the manual at ftp://download.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/D845GERG2/BV2RG2_English.pdf

i don't know weathere you are awared of this or not...

to get the 32 bit graphic on 82845gv motherboard go to BIOS setting and change your video frame buffer size to 8 mb and agp aeperture to 256 mb and let the system boot... you will get 32 bit graphic with 1024 x 748 screen resolution... i have changed and believe me it is working

but only problem is that you will hardly play any game or use bubble screen saver..
