Question about Wagner Power Products 0154842 Medium Spray Gun Filter, 50 Mesh

2 Answers

I have a wagner 404 Plus sprayer. It was working fine, but started loosing pressure while spraying. I checked and cleaned all filters, thined the material some more, but still would not spray. I also took apart and cleaned the inlet and outlet valves, Changed gun filter, still no help. This machine has not been used that much, and I've always followed the cleanup and storage procedures in the manual. It does prime, but doesent build up enough pressure to spray. Any other sugguestions.

Wagner 404 plus airless paint sprayer. works in prime mode, circulating paint through pump. when turned to spray mode, does not build pressure to spray. I have done all troubleshooting outlined in manual, still can't get to operate properly. This unit is about 3 yrs old, but has not been used that much. Less than 10 gallons sprayed, and I always followed cleaning and storage directions after each use. This was working well for about 5 mins, when lost pressure. Any sugguestions on what to do next.

It sounds like one of two things...

either the pump seals need replaced or the motor is not running fast enough under load.

Check for loose wiring on the motor, the brush holders and condition, and make sure that the air path to cool the motor is clean and free of obstructions.

I have a Wagner 404 - it won't pump at all - motor is fine, just something wrong in the pump itself.
Where can I buy a new pump and at what cost?

Did you make sure the paint container is properly sealed and not letting pressure to release? You may need to remove top and clean rim of container and top.

This sprayer is designed to syphon the paint out of an open gallon pail, which it does, In the prime mode, it will circulate paint through the pump, problem is when I switch to spray, it doesn't build the pressure needed to properly spray, even with the pressure control knob turned to max pressure.

Since there's enough pressure to prime the problem is almost certainly in the spray gun (probably at the trigger) Can you open the gun and make sure the pressure release spring is engaged correctly?

Try siphoning some paint thinner through the unit. That should clear any obstruction and loosen any stuck parts.

Does a Wagner Paint Crew sprayer take lubricant?

The Wagner Paint Crew airless sprayer does not require oil for its operation like full professional sprayers. The piston is off-set from the pump chamber with the inlet and outlet valves opposite each other, however you need to protect the parts from corrosion between use and Wagner recommend running some light oil through it after cleaning. If you will be using it in a day or so for water based paint, you could run a 10% solution of their EasyGlide through it.

Spray gun problems

You basically have what is called a "cupgun" and there are a few reasons for this and it should be pretty simple to fix I want to stress that anytime you spray the paint no matter what latex-oil needs to be thinned with the compatible solvent water for latex paint thinner for oil/Alkyd by about 10% - 18% that could be the problem if you have latex in your gun but probably it has to do with the "needle seat" in the back of the gun there should be a knob to adjust the needle turn your gun on pull the trigger and turn knob till paint comes out if that wont work you may have debris in your paint that has clogged the stem pour all the paint out clean gun completely pour paint threw a strainer cone or strainer bag and be sure to thin it...

Shoots drips

Most airless spray guns spit a bit when you pull or release the trigger because the paint between the spray tip and the paint valve is under pressure but not enough to atomise the paint. If you increase the pressure you may reduce the spit to a point when you don't notice it. A blocked filter could slow the paint getting through to the tip cause lower pressure.

Wagner 404 Plus Airless motor stops.

All airless sprayers are on-demand pumps. The two settings are prime and spray. When it is set to prime, the pump will draw liquid from the bucket below and pump it out the side tube and will never stop until you switch it back to spray. When set to spray, the pump will run until the pre-set pressure is reached, then stop. As soon as you start spraying, the pump will run until a few seconds after you stop spraying. Tip size and pressure setting will affect how long after you stop spraying the pump will run. A large tip and high pressure will cause the pump to run longer after you stop spraying.

hello ald... use a fine piece of wire and clean the opening that the paint comes out through. It has a tendency to fill in as you spray. Joe
