The refridgerator is AF28VX1DTA. It starts making a noise that seems to be coming from the freezer. It almost sounds like a fan hitting something. Then the fridg looses it's cool...then sometimes the freezer stops being cold. We unplug and a few housrs later, it usually resumes normal operation for about one day, then the same thing happens. This has occurred 5 or 6 times.

SOURCE: Fridge and Freezer working intermittently; not getting cold and making a vibrating sound

Dave, what you are hearing is the overload kicking out on the compressor. It's one of two things, either the compressor is failing or PTC (overload, relay) is going bad. I haven't seen too many PTC's fail on Frigidaire, but I have seen a lot of compressors failing. Your refrigerator will have a 5 year warranty, parts and labor if the compressor is at fault. You would have to do some tests on the compressor to determine which one is at fault. If you have a clamp on ammeter you can see how many amps the compressor is drawing during start and run. The compressor should have a label on it with the amperage information. You could just replace the PTC, part number 218721119 and see if the problem goes away but you could be throwing away money here if the compressor is the problem. With out being there, my guess would be the compressor itself. Catriver...post back.

Your freezr drain is blocked or frozen. What you need to do is remove the ice rack then in the front of the freezer you will see 2 or 3 plastic plugs on the freezer floor remove the plugs and there might aso be some 1/4 inch screws farther in on the freezer floor. also remove the back of the back of the freezr and then lift out the bottom floor. under the evaporator you will see a lot of ice or just fod blocing the drain. I will bet its all full of ice. Carefully remove all the ice and hot water will help once you get the buk of it out. The hot water will make sure the drain is not blocked with ice. Once its al clear install in the reverse order and things should be good. This is a common problem with this unit.Good Luck

It sounds like your defrost cycle has stopped working. unplug your fridge for 24 hours and let it defrost. plug it back after 24 hour and if it starts to cool in the fridge part at about 40 degrees F. you will have to replace one of three parts the Defrost Timer, Defrost Themo or Defrost Element. I hope this helps you.

SOURCE: Loud buzzing noise from inside Jenn Air 2389G fridge

i don't know jennair specifically being from england.
however, there is often a fan inside the back panel and the noise you heard was the fan hitting ice. the reason now not heard and fridge not working may be that the ice has built up so much the fan is jammed

Try setting it to lower temperature. If that don't work the thermostat is bad.

Refridgerator has started making a noise. It stops when I open the refridgerator door and then starts again when I close the door.

It's your evaporator fan that is either hitting frost build up or bearing in motor is bad. If blade is hitting frost, you may have a defrost circuitry problem or door gasket problem

My 10 year old amana fridge makes a noise from the fan in the freezer it sounds like something is hitting it ,but on inspection I see nothing hitting it

Look closer because ice can build up and the fan just barely hits it making the noise. If the fan blades are not hitting anything, replace the fan motor as the bearings are getting worn out.

My refrigerator just recently started making a loud sound almost like a fan was breaking. Is my refrigerator breaking or can I fix this?

If this sound is when the compressor is cutting on or off it's the internal parts of the compressor. It can work like this till it brakes. There is no way to fix it without replacing the compressor. If you can put up with the noise just wait. Or it could be the fan behind the back cover inside the freezer hitting somthing like ice build up. Try to pinpoint the area the noise comes from.

Very loud noise whirling sound

Can you tell me where the sound is coming from? Like inside freezer or under refrigerator. Most sounds like you describe come from a fan motor and the fan blades are hitting something. Let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Noise

this fan is a variable speed and is controlled by a board in the rear of the unit. your bearings maybe going out. The fan will ramp up to speed depending on the call for cooling the Thermistors is asking for

I have a Sunsung RS21JLSG, and it's not chilling the food like it should. It's making terrible noise, sounds like a generator. Anyone know the problem?

Fan blade is hitting something probably, could be ice buildup in the freezer compartment. Open the freezer door and see if thats where your noise is coming from. If it is coming from the back of the refrigerator at the bottom could be something was drawn into the fan causing you noise.

LG Fridge making intermittent sound - like something hitting fan

GAIN ACCESS TO THE FAN IN THE FREEZER(EASIER SAID THAN DONE) AND INSPECT THE FAN BLADE AND FAN SHROUD. HAVE REFRIGERATOR TURNED OFF AND MANUALLY ADVANCE FAN BLADE. WATCH FOR SLIGHT CONTACT BETWEEN THE FAN BLADE AND OTHER OBJECTS NEAR IT-ELECTRICAL WIRING, FAN SHROUD, ICE CYCLE,ETC. ADJUST FAN BLADE OR OBJECT TO INCREASE CLEARANCE.

Rattling in freezer

The noise is most likley coming from on of the fan motors. My guess is the condensor fan motor which is on the back of the fridge at the bottom. You will need to take the back off and see if the blade is hitting something or the housing for the fan is loose. The vibration from that fan may even cause the drain pan to rattle. If the noise is coming from inside the freezer then it is the evaporator fan motor and would likely have some ice buildup around the blade for to make noise. Will have to take the grill off in the center top of the panel in the freezer to inspect this fan. There is little tab in the middle of that grill that you push up on and pop the bottom loose then pry on one side with a screwdriver, pushing inward and pull out for the grill to come off. Let me know what you find.
