Question about Gestetner Office Equipment & Supplies

Open Question

Re traditional Gestetner 211 litho: Problems with ink drying from plate edges inwards. Both water forme and ductor rollers new with new covers each and set ok. All ink rollers good condition, with two new ink forme rolers 1 year old. Wash-up only briefly solves problem. Alcohol in water, Thinners in ink no effect. Oil-based ink. Running machine in idle, no inkers or water ON, returns inkers to normal ink coverage, but on return to impression problem re-emerges. Any ideas?? With thanks. Stephen

I guess you d used generic ink carts?!
If yes, the cart holder needs replacement due to ink that has stained the led control. The ink has made a short circuit. The error can only be deleted by replacing the whole cart holder!

Installed new ink and now won't print anything, not even a test page. says error. deskjet 4400 series

Each ink cartridge has a metal, thin Copper 'plate'.
In this 'plate' there is a series of VERY small holes. The holes are so small it's hard to discern their existence, with just the ***** eye.

The area on the printer's body, that the copper plate matches up to, also has matching holes.

After a given time the ink dries up in these tiny holes.
The dried ink needs to be removed.

Printer UNPLUGGED from power, printer case open.
I would suggest wearing dish washing gloves, and remove all ink cartridges.

Small bowl half full of distilled water as hot as you can stand it, dip a clean, lint-free cloth in it. (Distilled, because non-distilled water can leave hard water spots)

Squeeze all excess water out until the cloth is damp. (D-A-M-P) Wipe the area on the body of the printer.

I would suggest wiping in one direction only. Wipe, then go to a fresh, clean part of the cloth, wipe again.
Keep wiping until the cloth picks up No ink.

You may want to follow suit on the ink cartridge/s now, as they may have picked up dried ink.

Suggest use a can of compressed air for computers, and make SURE all areas are D-R-Y.

Allow the printer to set open to dry afterwards. May only take 30 minutes, or less.

Ensuring all surfaces are dry from the water, reinstall the ink cartridges.
Close the printer's case. Plug back into power, WAIT 1 minute, then turn on.

There are 2 tabs on the bottom front edge of the switch plate which slide under the metal top cover. Make sure these tabs have not gotten bent upward so they will not slide under the top cover. If they are bent, simply pry them open. Also, note that the handle pivot has a sliding latch on it to allow the handle to be fully lowered. To lower the handle flat, push the little knob inward.

Hi is the ink you fitted a hp or a refilled one?
you can go to properties on your pc and do a head clean.
if that dos not work but a small amount of worm water in a small plate take the ink tank out and with the print head down and just enough water to cover the head leave it to soak for 5 mins
dry all the water off and place back the ink in the machine. or Tate the ink back to the shop.
good luck yours ian

What does ##343 mean?

##345 is jammed cartridge error. Reasons could include:

-Foreign material or dried ink in head cleaning unit (also known as "purge unit") , or waste ink pump jammed up. Make sure waste ink pump rotates freely, after cleaning. Clean the waste pump-hose too! Waste ink pump is located under head cleaning system.

Symptons are:

-Grinding noise (very loud)
-Flashes error code ##345

Short fix:
1.Take apart and wash the ink clogged mechanical parts. Use hot water.
2. Reset waste ink counter

Long fix:
The following operation takes several hours / days to complete.

-Take apart the whole printer, so there is only a metal frame left, with couple of paper-rollers, and motors, and the "Print-head cleaning" -system. Wash this cleaning-system.

-Mark all wires that look the same (especially white flat ones), take photographs when disassembling.

In detail, remove at least following items:
-Main Power lead!
-Casing (Use bright flashlight to see TWO front cover-screws under the dark plastic!)
-Scanner (BEWARE of fragile flat-wires)
-Main electronic controller board
-Metal plate, plastic cover, and some others.
-Plastic base plate
-All materials that might absorb water. (two sponges, and one rubber foam part)

The two sponges are between metal frame and base plate, they absorb excess ink. Wash these separately, and dry, or change for new. (I left the shorter one out, when assembling)

There is also one long rubber foam part that is near where paper comes out, (visible from outside the printer, when cover is opened).

To get rid of the excess ink: Wash dirty parts heavily for 10 to 15 minutes with hot water. When out-coming water is clear, then it is clean.

-Let it to dry for couple of days, but you can use your imagination - compressed air could help it dry faster.

-Assemble it back together

How to reset waste ink counter (you should clean the printer also):

*AF-Key = Additional Functions key = the black button with the star in a head above it.

1) Enter SERVICE MODE. (Press AF-Key, followed by "scan", "copy", "scan" -Keys)
2) Select TEST MODE (press right arrow button 13 times).
3) Hit -OK-
4) Select [8] PRINTER TEST
5) Hit -OK-
6) It'll now say "- 8-2 +" press the right arrow key once to get "- 8-3 +"
7) Hit -OK-
8) Select 0. [INK COUNT].
9) Hit -OK-
10) It should return to showing the "8: Printer Test - 8-3 +"
11) Press the [Stop/Reset]key - (black key with triangle and circle on it) - (returning to the state of 4), and then press the [ON/OFF] key.

Cleaning the print head:

At any time, DO NOT wipe the actual print head with your fingers. Use ONLY water.

-Remove print head assembly from printer.
-Remove ink tanks.
-Use running warm water, wash away the excess ink that is dried around the print head.
-Take one disposable mug, fill with hot water, drop the print head assembly in there, and let it soak for an hour, or so.
(-IF you have massaging shower head, with spray jet -function, use this to deep clean the actual print head.)
-Dry it up carefully, do not wipe actual print head, just tap gently with soft paper.
-Install ink tanks, install assembly to printer, let it settle for some time (5-30 minutes)
-Run Nozzle check, cleaning, print head alignment.

This should do the trick.

My pages are printing correctly on the edges but light in the middle on my clx 3160fn. it has a new black ink cartridge

Is it only with one colour ? I had the same problem (only with black) and before buying another unit dismantled the imaging unit to find a build up of toner on the metering plate edge, I cleaned it and now it's fine.
It takes a bit to get to... 3 fixing screws each side plus one for the belt shute and one at the top. Remove the side plates, followed by the image drum (with great care) then each colour toner roller unit (they just slide forward) until the black unit is exposed. Remove the 5 cover fixings and then you can clean the plate edge. kh

How to repair Canon SmartBase MP360, flashing error code ##345

Short: Take apart and wash the ink clogged mechanical parts. Use hot water.

What to do (Long version):

First, use your head!

Dont rush, this operation takes several hours / days to complete!

-Mark all wires that look the same (especially white flat ones), take photographs when disassembling, or use photographic memory :P

-Take apart the whole printer, so there is only a metal frame left, with couple of paper-rollers, and motors, and the "Print-head cleaning" -system. Wash this cleaning-system.

In detail, remove at least following items:
-Main Power lead!
-Casing (Use brigh flaslight to see TWO front cover-screws under the dark plastic!)
-Scanner (BEWARE of fragile flat-wires)
-Main electronic controller board
-Some other shit, metal plate, plastic cover, you will see.
-Plastic base plate
-All materials that might absorb water. (two sponges, and one rubber foam part)

The two sponges are between metalframe and baseplate, they absorb exess ink.

When outcoming water is clear, then it is clean.

-I let it to dry for couple of days (on heated floor), but you can use your imagination, compressed air could help it dry faster.

Assemble it back together, and it works.... at least MINE did xD

Not exactly shure, WHY this helped, but i think it had something to do with a LOT of dryed ink in the "Print-head cleaning" -system. --> parts could not move freely. Or maybe some sensor was dirty? OR is this just a coincidense, and I happened to fix some other problem while taking the printer apart?

If you have no idea what youre doing, then don´t do it. But its broken anyway , what do you have to lose?

Have fun.
