Question about Arris SURFboard SB5101 Cable Modem

Open Question

Moved Motorola Surfboard SB5101 from provider to provider (Charter in North Carolina to Comcast in Virginia). Was gone for the weekend. When I got back it worked fine for a while (through a wireless router), then constantly tries to re-connect to Charter. I've tried turning it off and on, disconnecting power, disconnecting power and cable, etc. to include disconnecting from power and cable overnight and retarting from scratch. Is there a way to re-set it besides what I've tried? Do I need to hook up to it directly via cable to resolve the issue?

SOURCE: cable modem + dlink router

Your modem needs to be rebooted in order for your router to pull an IP from the modem. To do this, look for a little hole in the back of your modem and use a pen to push the button. Wait for the reboot to finish and then try again in about 20 seconds.

SOURCE: ARRIS Modem + D-Link router = no internet

when you are on Cable Internet with a "modem" only connected directly to the computer, what the ISP see is the computer's MAC Address (command prompt -> type ipconfig and hit enter).

put a router (which has it's own MAC Address) in-between and the ISP wont let you cause it sees the router not the computer.

check physical connection: cable modem -> router -> computer(hard wire for this troubleshooting)

access the d-link gui and locate the “Clone MAC Address" button (supposed to clone the computers MAC Address - verify if it's the same), save settings & reboot the router.

SOURCE: Arris cable modem

if the power light is flashing then the modem is on battery backup and internet is disabled. plug the power cord into the modem or find a working power outlet, you should be set after that.

How do i get my pppoe username and password?

If you got it from your cable provider you will need to contact them to get that information.

If you bought it outright and are pairing it with your ISP then again you will have to contact your provider.

Most cases (Time Warner or Comcast) the modem should set itself up on first run and have you set up a password directly from their main site.

If you have the following lights :

Then your Network Access is OFF - modem is successfuly registered but Network Access Control is disabled via DOCSIS configuration file.

Call your internet service provider....

Motorola SB5101 port forwarding

Try putting 192.168.100.1 in the address box of a web browser. If the modem is provided by your ISP you might need to call them if that won't work.
