It is possible that the relay is actuated from the control board and gets disconnected only when the safety swtich is engaged- when you open the door. hence you will need to check into the circuit to trace, from the heater to the driver relay. Checck if there is a short or a false trigger. This may be a bit difficult as the PCB- printed circuit board - may be filled with epoxy to prevent moisture build up and testing could be difficult. Normally the companies recommend board change but you need to check if familiar or get help to probe into this switch on. Hope you try this out. Good day

Hi,

I have an older dishwasher also and recently my wife also complained about it not cleaning right... so me being the man I am tried in vain to clean the things... Bought new spray arms online and installed them in minutes...now the thing works like new... However I have also found that if the heating element goes bad then that also can mess things up bad... So I would buy new spray arms, and also check out the heating element to make sure it is working... Here is a tip that will help you with the online buying...

My maytag dryer heating element gets hot but motor will not run

Sounds like you have something shorted out.

The element issue could be a contact fused shut.
With both problems I would be looking for wires melted together, or a relay/sequencer welded shut melted etc.

You do have a potential fire hazzard here. If after removing the panel you cannot locate the problem, do not run the unit.

Heating element stays on when dryer is off.

I would advise to inspect the high limit thermostat. this device may be defective. this will cause the element to continue to operate when the unit is off as well. If the thermostat is operating correctly, replace the timer.

Heating element

if it does not stay red after you open the door then it's ok. but opening the door in mid cycle is not a good habit. turn off heat for a minute first will help the elements last longer.

Heating element won't stay hot.

Hello vsjant3,
I assume you cheated out the door interlock switch when running your test. If you did not, then the dryer will shut off when the door is open as part of the safety interlock system. If you did cheat it out and the element shut off after about 20 seconds, then you may have a problem with one of the temp sensors. When an overtemp condition occurrs, it disables power to the heater and it will shut off.. Other considerations are the wiring to the heater.. if you had a poorly tightened heater wire that was ok when first started and cold but when hot and passing current opened, that would also exibit the same symptoms. If I were a betting man, I'd say you probably have a bad temp switch. You can measure them with an ohm meter ( dryer unplugged of course).. or simply jumper the wires together to bypass one to see if it is the fault. Make sure you replace a bad sensor and do not leave it bypassed or you risk fire.
Here is a link to the wiring diaghram of your dryer.. http://www.pcappliancerepair.com/model-display.php

Hope that helps,,
Regards,
Rick
