Question about Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine

1 Answer

4 questions: #1...what are the 2 hoses for: I understand that one is needed to suction the water to the pump, but what about the shorter hose? #2...I am unable to get crema. I have adjusted my grind but it still seems weak. I have a cuisinart conical burr grinder. #3...Though the light has gone out to prompt use, it comes on shortly after I start using any of the three buttons (coffee, hot water, steam).Does this signify anything important? #4...My understanding before purchasing the Rancilio was that there wasn't any wait time between using the coffe button and the steam buttom. Though not long, it isn't an "instant" before going from one to the other. Is this normal? thanks for your help.

1; Second hose is for expansion valve from pump, in case there is excess pressure the water returns to the reservoir.

2; Either the coffee is stale or the amount of tamp pressure is not enough. Think of your grind coarseness rocks and sand, that will help you find the right grind.

3; No

4; Yes it is normal. You need a higher temp for steam than for coffee, therefore the thermostat on the machine is programmed to get the water in the boiler to steam temp when you ask for steam, a few seconds at the most.

I have an Easy Set and using a skimmer. Should I remove the extra intake hose?

Huh?
i am confused... What does a hose have to do with the ability of the pump to move water?

Suction of a pump has nothing to do with an extra hose.
Suction ability has everything to do with whether a filter element is clean or dirty!
These toy pumps have an exceptionally SMALL filter, and need cleaning or replacement OFTEN!
The suction action of a pump should not change, with the attachment of a skimmer: unless... The skimmer is higher than it should be and sucks air, therefore the pump will lose prime!
If you comment back with a little more detail, somebody will be glad to assist.

How do i set up the vacuum for intake pool?

The first thing you need to do is make sure the pump is primed and able to draw water from the pool and return it with full flow to the pool. Now turn it off and make sure that your hose fits into the suction port and that the hose connects correctly to the vacuum head and the pool pole fits to the vacuum head. Next you need to disconnect the vacuum from the suction port and place the vacuum head with the hose and pole connected to it onto the bottom of the pool. Now force the hose straight down into the pool so it forces water into the hose and forces all the air out of the end that connects to the suction port. Keep forcing more and more hose into the pool until all the hose is filled with water. This is called "sinking the hose". The end of the hose can now be connect to the suction port. When the pump is turned on it should start pumping water from the hose into the pump and when flow is able to draw dirt as you move the vacuum across the bottom of the pool until it is clean. I hope this helps.

Do not know how to install the filter to the pool, misplaced the instructions

1 - Connect your shortest hose from the bottom of your skimmer (if your pool came with one) to the lowest hole in your pool.
2 - Connect another hose (if I remember correctly, the 2 remaining hoses are the same length - if not, use the shorter of the two) from the outside of the lowest hole to the bottom place on your filter.
3 - Connect the final hose from the top place on your filter to the highest hole on your pool.

Your pool's water leaves your pool thru the lower hole & enters the filter. The filter then returns the water to your pool thru the highest hole.

If your pool did not come with a skimmer, you need to be sure to screw the vent cover over the lowest hole. You will need to screw the vent cover to the highest hole as well, but this is MOST important with the lowest hole as the suction could cause serious injury or even death to anyone (especially a child) who unsuspectingly gets too near. The suction could 'grab' a child and harm him/her or even cause the child to become trapped underwater. Please don't forget to correctly secure this spot of your pool.

The pump lose prime when we vacuum

The reason the pump will lose prime anytime is because insted of the pump pulling in water, it is now pulling in air from some source. When you set up the pool to be vacuumed, you must be sure to prime the vacuum hose with water before inserting the vacuum hose into your suction. The easiest way to do this is to:
1. attach vac.head unto the vac.pole and 1 end of the vac hose.
2. holding on the the other end of the vac. hose so it doesn't get away from you. slowly lower the the set up into the pool and make sure the pole doesn't get away from you either.
3. now you will notice part of the hose is filled water and part of it is floating ontop of the water with air still in it. Now while sitting on the edge of the pool, pull the hose toward you to where you think the part of it is now full of water. than slowly feed the rest of the hose, hand over hand until the end of the hose and you will see water come out the end, the hose is now totally full of water.
4. This is the tricky part, cuff your hand over the end of the filled hose and with the pump running plug the end into the suction, re: skimmer or suction port.
At this point you might have induced some air into the system and the pump may lose prime or start to lose prime. Go over to the pool equipment and if present, bleed the air out of the filter.
Hope this solves your problem.

I have a model 109163. I'm trying to pump water from a creek. The suction hose is about 6 ft below the pump and 12ft long. The output hose is running about 300 ft at a gradual incline to about 10 ft. My...

In order for the pump to **** up water, it must discharge air. Try this. Install a hose bibb (faucet) in the discharge line over top of the pump. Fill the pump housing with water, turn on the pump and open the hose bibb/faucet until full water flow is established. Almost all air should be out of the pump and suction line at this time. Now when you close the hose bibb/faucet, the pump will have plenty of pressure to fill the long discharge line.
Suction line should be 2-1/2 inch if that is the pump suction size.
What size is your discharge line?
There should be a check valve/foot valve on the end of the line in the creek to keep water in the pump once it is primed.

When i put my hose in to vaccum i lose suction but with out hose it will **** your hand down the pump is workin great

Are you filling the hose with water before you put your hose into the skimmer? Put your vacuum in the pool - put the other end of the hose over a discharge ... when the air bubbles stop coming from the bottom ... , put your hand over the end of the hose and then stick the hose into the skimmer suction.

Pump won't **** when attach the hose

Its very possible that it is not a problem with the pool pump, but a problem with the conncetion to the vacuum hose. If you are losing pressure only when you vacuum, make sure that your connection is secure and you have no holes, cracks, etc. in your line. If you think that there are definate pool pump problems, check for the following problems.

1) Clogged or restricted strainer or suction line

2) Plugged or restricted discharge line of filter (high

discharge gauge reading).

3) Air leak in suction (bubbles issuing from return fittings).

4) Pump operating underspeed (low voltage).

5) Plugged or restricted impeller.

Heeeelp! How to hook up hoses on Sundance spa

There is a skimmer in the side of your tub( the part that skimms water off the top ) and what is called a main drain or a better tearm is deep suction that pulls water from the bottom of the tub and helps collect heavy dirt from in the tub these two lines ( three if there is more than one main drain) These will all come together and then hook to the front of the pump. If your filter is under the skimmer basket the top of the pump will go to the heater and then back to the spa. If your filter in not under the skimmre basket then it will come after the pump then on to the heater. So in answer to your second question, the front of the pump draws the water in and the top pushes the water out. But make sure that your heater is last in line so it only deals with clean water and it will not run on the suction side of the pump as it need water pressure in it to start and contious flow to keep it from over heating. Hope this helps.
