This is always because people buy modern SD Cards that are far too bit for older cameras. The maximum size for an SD Card is 2GB. Also you must format the card inside the camera.
The V800 works with SD cards. Your new 16GB card is a SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible and will not work in this camera. You need to go with SD cards, 2GB and smaller.
Try formatting your SD card by plugging in Laptop's or using a memory card reader.
Don't use the cell, after formatting insert in cell and re-format.
it will work.
Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from Amazon.com or Buy.com
2
Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
3
Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
4
In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
5
Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
6
Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.
Here are some possible solutions to your error mgs.
The lever on your SD card might be turned the wrong way so the SD card is reading protective.
Please turn the lever and try again.
The SD card might not be supported by the model: Your camera Memory card support is SD/MMC up to 2 Gigabyte and SDHC up to 8 Gigabyte
The SD card might not be faulty, try another card, since the camera could give you a message like the one you're experiencing.
Try with a different SD card that is supported by the camera.
Is the manual, and you need to refer to pages 6 and 7.
If you still have problems, you should contact Vivitar support. This should not be a problem since the camera automatically switches to the SD card when inserted.
This is a common problem that many people experience with their SD Cards. It is normally an easy fix and you can follow a method that I posted on my tips here:
sorry should have said i have done that 3 or 4 times. Switched off cmaera and tried all again a week later. Exact same messege.
