There are many purposes that region coding can achieve, but the primary one is price discrimination, i.e., allowing the manufacturer to demand a higher or lower price depending on what the market will allow. There is great disparity among the regions of the world in how much a person is willing to pay for a DVD. Price discrimination is especially applicable to DVDs, as the marginal cost of selling one DVD is relatively small, allowing the seller a great deal of flexibility in pricing.

Another purpose is controlling release dates. One of the traditions of movie marketing that the advent of home video threatened is the practice of releasing a movie (to theaters) later in some countries than in others. Video tapes were essentially regional anyway, since video tape formats had to match those of the encoding system used by television stations in that particular region, such as NTSC and PAL. DVDs are less restricted in this sense, and region coding allows movie studios to better control the global release dates DVDs. However, the fact that such classics as "Casablanca" are sold with region codes suggests that price discrimination plays a more important role than release dates do.

Your Xbox region code has to match the region code on the video games. Figure out your xbox's country of origin and then only buy games that come from that region. If you are trying to play pirated discs and getting that error message, than they obviously were not pirated correctly.

In my PES 11 on my xbox 360 , it doesnt start .... when i put in the disc it says region error . SO how do i fix it?????

For the xbox360, the region code on the disc must match the region code in the registry of the dvd-rom drive. The only way around this is to modify your xbox360 so that it plays different regions. This is highly illegal, voids all your warranties and is not at all recommended.

I own a US console (NTSC) and it will only play discs that match with the NTSC code. I can not play a Japanese game (NTSC-J) since NTSC-J is different from NTSC.

Use the following link to figure out which region disc and which region xbox360 you have:

On my xbox it says that "this disc's region code is in correct for thins console" what should i do?

Sorry to bring bad news but...

You need to get a disc that is correct for your region.

eg..If your Console is from USA then you need USA disc. If it is from Japan you need Japan disc.
If it is from Europe...can you guess?

Xbox's like DVD and Blue ray players are regioned. Meaning they will only play disc from the same region the console was intended to be sold in.

This is because the internet has made the world a lot smaller and easier to get goods from other countries.
People were buying DVD's and games from abroad because they were cheaper than local games and DVD's.
To stop this manufacturers have codes on there players so they can only play local discs.

I hope this helps?

My xbox 360 will not read my disk

If it just a single disc problem it could be because the disc is out of region. By that I mean that the disc may be for any other region besides the United States which is region code 1. All US Xbox's will only play Region 1 discs. If it will not play any discs it sounds like an E74 error or disc drive error and your disc drive will need to be replaced. If you xbox is still in warranty the best solution is to send it into Microsoft for repair, if it is out of warranty or you just dont want to wait n the 4 week turnaround, you can just find someone knowledgeable in replacing the drive. The DVD drives in all xbox consoles are normal computer drives and run from a sata cable so replacement drives are easy to come by. Just make sure the person you have do it know how to properly replace it without getting you banned by Microsoft through xbox live. If you have any other questions, by all means send me an email. I worked for Microsoft for 2 years as a repair tech and I am very knowledgeable in Xbox issues.

Put a game in and it said region code for disk incorrect

First Step

Check the formats here supported by your Xbox 360 drive.

If the DVD's region and your Xbox console's region do not match, then you may face this issue of region code error.

If it does match, check playing other discs or the same disc in another player which would help you ascertain the exact nature of the problem you are facing.

I have a PAL machine which allows me to play Region free NTSC-US, NTSC-Japan games.

Disc region code

You purchased your console and the game disc in different regions/counter.
Xbox as a whole is separated by regions: (1 for North America and its Territories, 2 for Europe and 3 for Asia)
you''ll get this error message is you purchase the disc and console from different regions.

The disc's region is incorrect. what is mean by this????

Region codes is a built-in feature of the DVD system designed to control where discs are viewed and distributed. All DVD hardware and software is coded using one of six numbers ( DVDs Regions 0 , 7 and 8 are special cases - see below ). The U.S. and Canada use Region 1. Region 2 discs are used in the U.K. , Europe and Japan . While Australia and the Caribbean use Region 4. These codes determine where the discs can be played.

Your console must match the discs region code.
This is not the case so you wont be able to play with this game.

Hope it helped.

Xbox 360 HDDVD Player

Check the region code of the disc against your consoles region code, if they don't match it won't it.

Also have you installed the updates for the HD Player, if not either download them via Xbox live or download them from here and copy to disc: Cheers
