Question about GT Bicycles Gt I Drive Eccentric Bearings 216h

1 Answer

I have a 2009 GT Marathon Sport. I like the bike...I would like it a lot more if the gears didn't constantly go wonky and skip back and forth between gears, especially when I am trying to power up a hill. If I can't get this figured out, I know a 2009 GT Marathon that will be hitting Craig's List. Is this typical for the I-Drive that everyone raves about??

No, it's not typical, but there are a variety of reasons that you may be having a problem, including gear selection when climbing, riding technique, a shift cable problem or simple adjustment, and it would be very difficult to diagnose through the Internet. I would strongly advise you to get help from a knowledgeable friend, a bike co-op or a bike shop. A diagnosis at a bike shop should be available at no charge.

My speedo went crazy one day and now it displays insanely high numbers when standing still after turning the ignition on and then goes to 0 mph constantly when actually being ridden.

Hi, Luke for this scenario you will need your service manual, parts fiche, and owners manual if you can't find the best tool you ever bought for your Reiju, despair not, for a mere zero $0 you can download another one.

Probably a stuck needle valve Float. Your engine is flooding on one side bogging it down. Depending on your carbs it could be a bent constant velocity rod/pin (same thing really). The racket may be coming from the bad carb trying to stabilize with a bent rod.

From 4 gear to 7 gear every 6 to 7 pedal it skips like changing gear mountain bike

Hi michaelcook1....
Sounds like you need to adjust your derailer on the back of the bike, it may be out of adjustment and causing the chain to slip.

IJust bought a 2009 Motobecane Cafe Latte Hybrid bike used. The previous owner hardly used the bike and it looks new. He stated the bike probably need a tune up and the front derailleur was skipping the...

The derailleur has to be properly aligned to the chainwheels, then adjusted properly. A new cable must be installed correctly so that there is not excess friction, and then given the right tension. If that is done then the problem may be the shifter. If when you shift from the large chainwheel a single click sends it to the smallest then the shifter is possibly broken. You can try squirting wd-40 or similar into it to see if it's gummed up.

I have a pivot bearing problem with my Marathon GT....feels like the back tire is loose as hell, and can be wiggled side to side, with way too much play . You can see a gap in the frame when it moves....

You don't say what year the bike is... but quite common for bearings to show wear after a few years. Just replace it... you may be able to choose stainless or ceramic but generally I just use a quality steel bearing. It's a simple job IMHO, Youtube will probably have a video of someone doing it. But you may need a special tool to get the bearing out without damaging the frame.

I've got a 21 speed bike and I get a skipping ,

It is the derailer (the part on the back that the chain runs through). Take it to a bike shop or bike enthusiast. The repair should only take about 5 min. Some bike shops won't even charge you.

Seems chain is loose. every 3 pedel in skips and recatches sprocket. could be trying to change gears but doesn't look like it is, think its just loose. huffy nightstalker 12 speed

Sometimes chains have stiff spots that cause them to skip. You can try checking the chain for stiff spots or just spray some lube on it and see if it loosens up. If you turn the bike upside down or put it such that you can let the back wheel spin freely, you can slowly turn the pedal and see if you can see the spot on the chain where it slips. If you find it, you can spray lube on the spot and work it back and forth until it's loose. Good luck and hope this works!
