here are the things that i want you to follow to somehow resolve your issue.
1. On your computer, click on start then go to control panel
2. inside control panel open the PRINTERS and FAXES (XP) or PRINTER (VISTA).
3. make sure change the default printer icon to the HP Officejet 5600 series.
- right click HP Officejet 5600 series and choose "set as default printer"
4. then try printing,
note: the reason why you encounter that problem is because the default printer icon is the "HP officejet 5600 series fax".

first u check the cable of the printer to system connected properly from both end if not then connect properly , after that problem not solved then change the cable and try if the printer is working then the old cable is faulty , if the printer not ok then uninstall the printer driver from system and restart the system then after restarting the system reinstall the printer driver properly by giving right port, after installing restsrt the system . o.k. I believe I can help you.
Open your file of interest to fax in word, adobe, or text software.
Click file print.
now in your print dialog box make sure your canon MP730fax is selected.
Also, make sure all is bubble clicked for your page range.
click o.k. and a send fax dialog box should appear.
enter recipients info or chose from address book.
Now click send.
It should now fax all pages in that document to the fax you have selected.
You can only send to one recipient at a time with this feature but it should allow you to send all pages in your document.

There is no way I've heard of to disable the other functions on the printer, except by keeping the machine unplugged from the telephone line. Hope this helps.

Why dont you try uninstalling this form your PC/laptop and reinstalling it again.
This should help restart the printer again.

Tips for a great answer:
quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the
printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your
computer. Reboot your pc. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source
to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer. Then try
to print again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection.
that doesn't help, try the steps below:
Disconnect the printer from your computer.
Rebrick (pull out power supply, black box where the
power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30
On your computer, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.
Delete the Lexmark print object.
Reboot your pc.
When your pc turns on, reconnect the printer.
6. Wait until your pc fully recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list, then try to print/scan again.
