I need to change the chuck on my craftsman hammer drill

I need to change the chuck on my craftsman cordless hammer drill, I have the screw inside the chuck out but can't get the chuck to screw off the motor shaft. Do I need a special tool? Craftsman 19.2 volt model # 315.115430

I have to change the chuck on my Craftsman 19.2 hammer drill and can't get the old chuck off the drill. I have taken the screw out but can't unscrew the chuck from the shaft. How do I lock the shaft to unscrew the chuck?

No you dont need a special tool.

Some models the chuck threads off, and some it pulls off.

On your model it threads off, but it is a reverse thread. And being its a hammer drill its going to take some strong effort to remove it, as the hammer action has made it very tight.

I have in the past had to take the drill appart and hold the main shaft and use large channel locks to remove the chuch.

"Do I need a special tool?" (sic) Well sort of, you see you need, a slim tool that will grip the flat on the shaft to immobilize the shaft, so you can then grasp the chuck, to screw it off.
As a workaround why not pop off to your local Craftsman supplier/repairer and ask them to get it off, they have all the tools, and i doubt they would even charge you.
Or make a tool to fit?

The flattened shaft you refer to that can be gripped with a thin wrench came in place on the new chuck, there is no shaft visable on the drill. The flattened piece you refer to is on the chuck, does this unscrew from the new chuck?

Open the chuck up all the way....look and you should see a screw (usually a Torx type)....this must be removed.....it has to be screwed CLOCKWISE to remove (I usually use another drill/driver to remove it...it may be kinda tight)...once the screw is removed chuck up an Allen wrench in the chuck....hit the Allen wrench with a rubber hammer in the COUNTER CLOCKWISE direction....you may have to hit it a couple of times and WALLA the chuck is loose!!! Replacement is just the reverse. Good luck and be sure to follow the above directions.

How do i remove a keyless chuck from a Craftsman 19.2 volt 2-speed drill

Inside the chuck you will find a screw (probably torx) this is a left hand screw (Remove clockwise)
Insert a 1/2" allen key into the chuck and using a hammer strike it to spin the chuck off (Standard thread - Counter-clockwise)

How do i replace the jacob chuck on a hilti hammer drill?

Open the jaws of the chuck all the way open. Inside the chuck you will see a slotted screw. Use a large flat head screw driver and remove screw. It will have left handed threads.

After you remove the screw put the end of the chuck in a vise where the 6 flats sides are. Put the drill in low gear and reverse. Hold tight and turn on the drill. This should run the chuck right off the spindle.

On a model 315.101231 3/8 corded drill I need to remove the keyless chuck how do I do that?

If you open the chuck as far as it will go and look inside you may see the head of a screw, especially if the drill is reversible. So undo the screw and then you should be able to unscrew the chuck. But I am not sure if it will be easy to unscrew. With a keyed chuck you use the key and a hammer to unscrew the chuck.

Hi. open the chuck to the max. inside the chuck you will see a screw. remove it. put the drill in reverse. hold the chuck. a vice may be needed. pull the trigger. this may work, however in my experience, they are very tricky to get off. I have never had a faulty chuck but have had many faulty gearboxes. i have had to buy ney chuck to fit with the new gearboxes because i couldn't get the good chuck of the damaged gear box. good luck.

How do i remove the chuck from dewalt dc925 cordless drill, dosnt have a screw inside the chuck, read somewhere that i need a special tool but no instruction or picture of the tool. please help., thank you

The dc925 and the current model dcd950 along with several other models of Dewalt 's line of cordless hammer drills DO NOT have a screw inside removal requires a CHUCK REMOVAL FIXTURE part #
233804-40 also you can't use a generic replacement chuck. As of 2/2/2010 the prices on the Dewaltservicenet web site are $72.74 for
the tool and $69.70 for the chuck, part # 330075-90.

There is play in the chuck may be bearings. it means drill bit wanders slightly when drilling. drill bits lock in properly but the chuck has left to right play in it

You seem to have found the problem, now you must disassemble the gear head and remove the chuck. Open the chuck jaws wide and look for a screw inside that locks the chuck to the shaft.

Need to change a keyless chuck

open jaws for large size bit.look in bottom and there will be a screw slot or phillips head screw or possibly an allen head screw.remove this,by possibly turning clockwise. and then chuck up a large allen wrench. try removing the chuck by tapping wrench with hammer. this may be threaded on counterclockwise.have to try both ways.
