Question about NetGear RangeMax WPN824 Router

WPN824 Transmitting Signal, no internet.

Hi there, I've been having some trouble with my WPN824, for the past month or so, it has been running abnormally slow until, just about a week ago, it ceased functioning all together. It is still broadcasting a signal, but it lacks but only a local one, hence no internet. The Modem I have is working fine, I'm only online now because I'm connected directly to the modem. I hope that I can fix this problem without purchasing a new router, I've only had this one for about 8 months.

    Thanks, tried resetting it, but didn't work. I guess I'll just trade it in then.

As a last resort, you can reset your router by holding down the reset button in the back. It doesn't sound like this will fix the problem however. Purchasing a new router shouldn't be necessary, as most if not all Netgear routers come with a 1 year warranty standard.

Wpn824 v2 won't connect to internet via ethernet


It may be borked, especially if you've had a power surge or outage.
You may wish to call your internet service provider and request that they send a "Reset" signal to your Modem. It may even be offered through their automated menu before you reach a real person.
Failing that, try the following steps:
1. Unplug/power to ALL OF THE COMPONENTS - modem, router, and computer. Wait 20 seconds, then restore the power cord to the modem. Wait 1 minute until the modem fully boots and settles down. Next, restore the power cord to the router and wait at least 30 seconds for it to fully boot and settle down. Next, restore power to the computer and wait for it to fully boot up and settle down. Now, see if you have internet access. If not, go to Step 2.
2. Right-click on the network icon in the system tray and select "Troubleshoot problems". Wait while the Windows troubleshooter tries to identify and fix the problem. Now, see if you have internet. If not, go to Step 3.
3. Go to Control Panel/Device Manager. Under Network adapters, select the network adapter you're using and choose Uninstall. Click Yes/Apply/OK as appropriate. Restart the computer and wait while Windows re-installs the drivers for your adapter. Now, see if you have internet.
4. Try a different router.

How can I set up NETGEAR WPN824 v2


All you need to do is follow the steps below.
1. plug in a computer to one of the LAN ports on the WPN824
2. plug in your modem to the WAN or internet port on the WPN824
3. Turn on your netgear box.
4. Wait for the power light to get steady.
5. Go to your computer. Open internet browser and type http://routerlogin.com .
6. username is admin , password is password. If the default account details didnt work. reset the router for 30 secs and then try again the username and password.
7. go to basic settings. Here you will setup the internet on your router, it depends to your ISP.

If you can go this page, that means your router is still working .

I will be working on my laptop and the signal will stop transmitting. I will check my wireless networks available and it no longer displays my router. But if I unplug it and plug it back in it will come...


That is a sign of bad firmware of the router, Firmware is the software inside the router that control its activity , so what you can do here to correct the problem is to do a firmware upgrade on the unit and you can get the updated firmware from Netgear web site.....

My wpn824 says I have strong signal but limited access.


u may have a strong signal but in ordet to have a stable connection u should be sure that u r connected to your wireless network

Better to reset the router by pressing the reset button for 30 seconds and then run again the setup CD of the router to reconfigure it back so you will know all the settings on it....

Testing my RangeMax WPN824

-- who is your internet service provider
-- what is the operating system of your computer?
There is a possibility that the router setting might set back to its default settings. you may try this and see if this help solve your problem. make sure your computer is directly connected to the router

Step 1: Shutdown the computer.
Step 2: reset the router while power on then Unplug the router’s power cable.
Step 3: Unplug the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for 30 seconds.
Step 4: Plug in the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for its lights to appear stable.
Step 5: Plug in the router's power cable once the modem’s lights appear stable.
Step 6: Power on the computer on
Step 7: test the Internet connection.

if this still didnot work, upgrade the firmware of your router

Is the smart setup (that is automatic setup) does not work, call your internet provider for the exact details (unless you have them) and do the manual setup.
You will save time.
