Question about Computers & Internet

Have installed new netgear wireless router for two-computer home network that my desktop pc 'found' with no problem (it's cable-connected) but my remote laptop can't seem to 'find.' vista shows it's connected to network but cannot identify it, thus has 'local' connection only. new network has name, password, etc; believe i followed all installation instrux properly. don't know how to get laptop to 'see' newly routered network. duh.

no, seems like there must be some way to get the laptop to accept the new name of the network. right now, it shows the network as 'unidentified,' which it isn't. it has a name and password, which laptop accepts and shows as having used to make connection but, alas, has not, in fact used to connect.

OK, TURN OFF DHCP, in Services, on BOTH PC's.
Also you MUST have a password on BOTH PC's BOTH must be in the same workgroup, both PC's should have sharing enabled on the folders/drive you wish.
Use the Network connection Wizard to connect up.

These above links will help.

Try to reinstall the laptop's wireless card ....maybe you have a problem with that ..also see that the card is turned on from the button ..and when you open the wireless window..just click on scan for networks ..and it will find the router by the name you assigned..and ask for the password..

try to change the frequency in the router settings on the wireless..section ...see that it has numbers o a scale from 1 to 12...or so ...put it in the middle about 8 or 9 will be better ..and than try again ...Be sure that you did not set on security to (in the wifi setting are ain the router ) select the connections by the MAC address..cause in this way will refuse the connections but for the mac adresses you selected..
If I was in your place I will remove any security for the moment ..and name ,,,and practically reset the wifi settings in the router to the initial ones..and just enable it and select a frequency in the midle of the scale ...and see if it works ..
These routers only have a 100m range or so anyway ..and if you do not have any body on that range it will not be able to get your signal ...and after you see that it works ..than you select a name or a password for it ...it may be the case that the encoding that you chosen for the password not to be compatible with the card ...or maybe the router is on N and the laptop on G ....

Wireless connection with a wireless router (Netgear WNDR 4000) a pc and a laptop.

I assume you connect your printer to the desktop with the USB cable.
I assume the laptop is connected to the Wifi network.

First you need to setup the printer to connect to the wireless network. Follow the printer installation instructions to do that.
Next insert the install Disc into the laptop and follow the installation instructions. Use the network installation section.

The printer has a built-in server for printing.
If UPNP is enabled on the router then you should be able to browse the printer on the network.

Connect the lan cable from the dsl modem into the first port on your netgear router ..
make sure your dsl modem is on PPPoE mode so that it autoconnects..
Now just connect to your wireless router via your pc interface..

Are you sure that your PC has a built in wireless function and not just a regular modem ??

If you just have a modem you will need to purchase a USB wireless interface the link below will take you to one perfectly compatible with your router.

Server not found} NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router doesn't connect me to the internet.

Dear Loud Nouises,

Your router must be connected properly to the cable modem. This must be to the wan port on the router.

Next, the router must be set-up accordingly to recognize the modem's internet connections. Please ask for the IP address.. and other relevant informations from your internet provider.

Set -up your computer using the internet connections wizard on each of your respective computer.

This should work fine if all connections were correctly configured.
