When you are freezing something, set your freezer on its highest setting. However, if you are going to leave your freezer empty for a long time, you should change the setting to a lower one. Here's a great tip for ice cream: place a tub of ice cream in a ziplock bag before putting it in the freezer; it prevents freezer burn. The best temperature for the freezer section is in the range of 0 F to -10 F. Ice cream will remain somewhat mushy at temperatures above about 5 F or so. Actually ice cream never does totally freeze due to the fat content.... it does get hard but does not totally freeze. Now ice on the other hand will freeze solid at 32 F , as you well know, the colder the faster it will freeze.

Cuisinart Ice Cream Freezer Bowls Not Freezing Anymore


I would take the freezer bowls out of the freezer, run them both under the sink to thaw both bowls out, dry both bowls thoroughly, and then set them both on the counter so that the liquid settles toward the bottom of the freezer bowls. After 1 hour, place the bowls FLAT back into the freezer - don't forget to wrap them in a plastic grocery bag or some other sort of plastic bag. Try to make ice cream again after 24 hours or more of freezing. Let me know if this works, so I can pass the good news along to others.

The ice cream mix has to be xconstantly stir in a nrine solution, That's why they have motorized ice cream makers that rotate the can surrounded by ice and salt.(brine) while a paddle inside stirs it. Good luck and enjoy.

Ice cream is soupy & when I freeze it it becomes icy


Freeze the bowl for at least 24 hrs, rather than the 12 hrs the manual suggests - it will make all the difference in the world. For really thick ice cream, freeze the bowl for a day, and then put the ingredients in the freezer until the outer rim becomes frozen. Very delicious!

I have the same problem, but it seems that it has gotten worse with time. When I first bought this product 6 years ago it worked fine, now the bowl won't freeze entirely and it has been in the freezer for two days (at the lowest freezer setting). I am wondering if the freezer bowl has a life span.

Over freezing ice cream....


Any water is going to solidify the mixture. Make sure you use heavy whipping cream, and not half-and-half or some other substitute.

As far as the mixture freezing onto freezer bowl - use the supplied spatula to try to scrape it off, but I generally have to count that portion out as lost. Running warm water over it will quickly wash it off.

It depends somewhat on the quality of ice cream. Some brands freeze easier than others. One reason is cheaper brands have more sweetener/sugar in them.
I think if your freezer is freezing water into ice cubes, it should freeze ice cream of good quality.
Try putting the ice cream where the ice cube tray is and verify ;this.

Ice cream has ice crystals in it


Ice crystals are more prevalent in homemade ice cream because it takes longer to freeze the mix. When you can flash-freeze the ice cream to very low temperatures very quickly, there is less time for the molecules to melt and refreeze, which causes crystal formation.

Here are some of the useful tips:
1.) When the ice cream is done, transfer to the coldest part of the freezer as quickly as possible
2.) Pre-freeze the ice cream bowl before using, and pre-freeze the storage container before putting the ice cream in it and into the freezer
3.) Make sure the mix is very cold before using the machine. Maybe put the mix in the freezer for 15 minutes before starting the machine, so that it will finish faster
