Hi juliansplace.

Are you connected to the internet?
Usually when people have this problem it means their computer is not connecting to the internet to check the product key.
All you need to do is connect once and it should not display again.
Let me know if this does not help

Problem opening Windows

Usually a sign of Hard drive problems, boot up in safe mode if you can.
Right click on C: drive, properties/tools/error check and let it do a full scan with automatically fix errors chosen.
You may want to back up as much as you can if you manage to get into safe mode

Error message

That is not an error, Windows is trying to verify that there are no issues with your hard disk. Is what you wrote above all that you see? If so then check disk is freezing before it completes. Try to cancel the chkdsk before it starts by pressing any button when it prompts you to, log into windows, back up everything up that you need and restart your laptop. Worst case scenario you need to reinstall windows on your laptop

Gateway 7330GZ will not follow through at start up

At startup, hold down F8 key. select safe mode start. allow windows to guide you from there. if no-go, then repeat but choose dos prompt only, then insert a win 98 startup disk and run scan-disk on your drive. if no-go, in worst case, try to delete the pagefile.sys file from dos prompt (you may need to change file attributes from read-only and hidden and system to toggled-opposite-read, not hidden, not system). and repeat above steps
