There are many places to get the power adapter.
I do not reccommend any place over another.
I just did a search on the power adapter and this is one site that I found. I am not responsible for this site.

It sounds to me like some of the cells in the battery has collapsed.
A 12 volt light doesn't use as much juice on the battery as when you boot up. When Mobo, Monitor, Harddrive etc etc. start up they all use a large start-up-current and if the battery cant sustain the amount of amp. they all need together, nothing happens.
This is called shadow-charge, the battery seems fine, but when it really needs to put out some power it collapses.
I think you should try to sniff up another battery and see if this one has the same problem.
Or perhaps investigate wether or not you still have some warranty left on the battery, to try to get a free replacement.
