Brother intellifax 1800c color inkjet fax, error 41

I have a Brother intellifax 1800c color inkjet faxmachine and after installing new toner, I got error 41. How can I fix it?

    It appears that my carriage return or the toner carriage are stuck and I can't get it to return to the left margin so I can take the toner cartridges out. What can I do to accomplish this? Thank you. Dianna

    My fax does not have a power button so I just used the menu/set button. Where is the power button? thanks. Dianna

    This is not the All in One, this is a phone/fax machine only and I plug it in to start it. I have searched everywhere for an on/off switch. I'll check the manual. Thanks!

    Sorry but there is no mention of Resetting in my manual. I have been trying to fix this thing off and on for a while. I just can't get the carriage over so I can take out the cartridges as now it is telling me to check cartrige but I can't get the carriage over. not sure.

    Thank you. Already received this info but it seems that the printer carriage is stuck as it won't release the toner so I can take them out and it keeps telling me now to check cartrige but I can't because I can't get the carriage to go over. there is no reset button so I can't do that. don't know what else.

    My machine is out of the warranty period; already checked. How would I check:
    Carriage ASSY
    Main PCB
    Print head unit
    Power supply PCB

    Now not giving me error 41, keeps telling me to check cartrige but I can't get it to move over to the left so I can do that. Seems the carriage return is stuck, broken or something.

    Hello Belkin,

    I did not know I could get live tech support (think that is only if you are in the warranty period) - I am not.

    I do not know how to remove the cartridge and check if is it giving any ''No cartridge"message...

    then try to insert the cartridge again and check... Make sure you are taking off the power supply from wall outlet before taking the cartridge out....

    I am just a consumer. I'll try these tomorrow. It is late here and I have to get to bed. Thanks for all your help so far. Maybe talk more later. Thanks. Dianna

    It seems like I am screwed as I was quoted a price of $79.99 for a new printhead or they gave me $20 credit on a new machine. Guess what? I'm buying anything other than a Brother. This is unacceptable business. Thank you. Dianna

Hi.

Error 41 is wrong voltage to printhead. On the Brother 1800C this is due to a factory defect. The errror is usually fixed checking wiring to ink carriage and then replacing the print head.
For USA market Brother has extended the warranty period for "Machine Error 41" on 1800c and other models. Call their US toll free number at 1-800 284-4329 to verify warranty status.
If you are not located in US, contact your local brother customer service. The phone number is listed on the printer manual.

Sorry to say,I wish I had better news but..It seems that your error code 41 happens on many models,is very costly,and it takes forever to contact Brother on the phone.There are even a few testimonies by people who claim they work for Brother customer service and are ashamed of it! In this last link a couple people told what part error code 41 refers to and that was the only place I saw that.
I am going to provide a link to Brother customer service so that if you like you can find out your options.Even If you are happy with it,it appears that it would be cheaper to buy a new one.It is up to you.

    That's okay.I just like to do what I can for repairs.If I feel I can research it and get a solution on certain items I do not know as much about,I at least give it a try.I do not look just for pay solutions.I answer at least 10x more free ones than paid ones.My wife speaks Spanish too so I help them whenever possible.Have not seen a Premium Spanish request yet.It's obvious I have a lot of free time.I am talking too much.Good luck!I do have 1 question though.That model looks fairly old.Many of the forums were 3 yrs. old or more.How long have you had your machine?

For USA customers Brother has extended the warranty period for "Machine Error 41" to 24 months of proof of purchase or 30 months of serial number. Please call our toll free customer service support line at 1-800 284-4329 M-F to verify if your machine is within the warranty period. They will assist you on locating the nearest Authorized Service Center. If your product is within the extended warranty period, Brother will cover the repair cost to have your Print Head replaced. Brother has corrected the "Machine Error 41" error condition.


i would suggest the following steps for you...
The head drive voltage has not been turned from Low to High within the specified time.

Check:
Carriage ASSY
Main PCB
Print head unit
Power supply PCB

Hello,

This is a common problem, once after 24 months of purchase of the machine or when the toner cartridge is been changed, The problem is from the print head on your Brother intellifax 1800c color inkjet fax machine. it is either you are using replacing the toner with toner that is not compatible with your machine or the print head of your machine is damaged.

In of the case, the problem is from the print head, install a genuine brother toner, if the problem still surface, you will need to change the print head on your machine to fix the problem or contact brothers if it is still under warranty.

The error 41 is from the failure of the print head..and sometimes reseting it ..and cleaning it will fix it ..if it is just from using refilled cartridges or so ...but usually for Brother ...if you get this error message this is the print head that failed...and you need to replace it ...
I understood that for United States customers ..they extended the warranty period with 24 month ..and if you call them and you are in this qualification they will support the cost ..
Here is a text I picked up from their site ..

    shut it down ..and when you plug it again ..and after that power it up and keep the power button pressed for 10 sec ....If it has a reset button you may press it too and keep it down ...this should at least make it get in place ..

    I was under the impression that it is an all in one ..if it is a phone fax machine ..than take a look in the menu for general reset ..this have to be specified in the manual too ..and the reset might fix all problems ....If you have the original manual ..take a look and see what they say about resetting it ..and the drum ...so that if the error is caused by the cartridge changing ...to get rid of it ..

Hello sir; If your computer with wizard software, then click "start" go to "setting" after that click on "printer & fax" select adding, then just follow the instruction to finish installation.

Brother Intellifax 1960C no cartridge error


the sensor that tells the fax machine that a cart is installed mite be dirty (with toner also) or it mite be bad:(. try can air be careful not to blow toner/dirt everywhere in the machine

Error 41 is showing up on the screen. says to contact brother. It's a intellifax 1820c.


Error 41 means there is a major problem with the printhead, usually
requires a print head replacement. My advice is to take it to a
Brother service centre while it is under warranty. If it's out of
warranty then it is cheaper to purchase a new, non Brother model. If you have been using non-Brother cartridges or refills, they can have too much water in them and it erodes the print head after a while. Usuall y just after warranty has expired!

print head defective. cant be fixed anymore.
You need a new fax machine due to the fact that the spare part is more costly than  a new one!

Machine Error 41


Error code 41, Print cartridge is bad and gone out. Needs to be replaced by authorize dealer for just under $100.00 ($55.00 part & $40.00 Labor).
