If camera was dropped then lens mechanism got some internal damage and lens assembly replacement will fix the problem.
And if camera was not dropped then spray some canned air around lens barrels to remove dust particles inside that might causing problem.
Some times initialize sensor got failed to send mechanism reset signal to system control chip thus resulted lens error, in that case, lens assembly will be replaced. If camera is under warranty then call Nikon number written on warranty papers and if out of warranty then local camera repair shop will help you get it fixed.
Thanks.

I turn my dmc-fh27 camera and the lens won't come out. it is trying to move but it will not budge and the screen says "System Error (Zoom)".

Warning: This is only a last resort if you no longer have a warranty.

I used a variety of different methods, but here's what worked for my camera. Apparently the lens was just off the track.

1. Turn on the camera, and smack the back against the palm of your hand to get the lens to come out.
2.Hold the lens out until the "error screen" comes up.
3. Take the camera with the lens facing towards you, and use your thumbs to push on the lens.
4. Push firmly until the lens "clicks".
5. Turn off camera, then on again.
6. Hopefully cry tears of joy that you fixed it.

My camera keep saying lens error

there are some repair options for a lens error. They won't work for all cases, but they're worth a try if the camera's no longer under warranty:............

Message in screen reads "lens

I have fixed similar problems with various versions of this camera.
Many people in FixYa.com recommend various treatments for this problem. These include gently tapping the camera on a hard surface or tapping it harder on the palm of your hand in order to dislodge any sand or dirt that may be clogging the lens gears.
I first to take the camera back to the shop if it is still under warranty. Second, look at similar morels on FixYa.com to see the other solutions. Search for 'cannon lens error restart' and things of that nature.
Third, if none of these other options work out, then please go to my blog and check out the instruction on how to take apart your camera and fix it for yourself. Here's the link: http://johnsmouth.wordpress.com/2010/12/01/lens-error/
The method is for an older model, but your camera should be similar inside. I've used this method with newer Canon PowerShot Digital Elphs and it also fixed those lens errors.
Good Luck!

The lens is stuck out- it wont close and the screen reads "lens error" how can i fix this?

This is probably THE most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

First off, see if Canon can help you. If not, the following blog outlines some repair options for a lens error. They won't work for all cases, but they're worth a try: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html
