There are a few ways to solve this. First, run a registry cleaner like WISE registry cleaner (free). This may get rid of the registry errors that are preventing the install. Alternately, you can go into the Windows System Restore points, and select a restore point that is dated prior to the date you first had the problem. Get the registry cleaner at C-NET Windows Downloads

You could try this utility:
The Windows Installer Cleanup Utility: http://majorgeeks.com/Windows_Installer_CleanUp_Utility_d4459.html

You can also (possibly) go into Windows Explorer and find the directory where the AVAST software resides and delete the entire folder.

You could also try doing a system restore back to where the software was actually installed and working.

You might even be able to reinstall it in safe mode.

First.. install a different antivirus program while you are fixing this installation. Try microsoft security essentials or AVG.
Then.
Check your program files folder for any mention of Avast, and delete it.
Run a search for avast and delete anything you find.
Download a registry cleaner, I use CC Cleaner.
Run the cleaner and remove all the files it finds, run the registry cleaner and let it delete all the problems it finds .
IF you want to try with avast again, uninstall the other antivirus program you may have installed. then try with the Avast again

Try using a FREE*, normal anti-virus from Microsoft Corporation:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security-essentials-download
Click on Download button in the page and installl it, but before that please close any open programs and uninstall the escan anti-virus. By any open programs I mean open folders, any other installations, just go to page, click Download, run it, then close your browser.

Hands Down Best Antivirus for Windows XP/Vista/7 (It's Free!)

Antivirus products come and go at an alarming rate. At this current juncture one of the best antivirus solutions (which I might add is FREE!) is a Microsoft product. Go figure! A free antivirus product produced by the operating system creator for that operating system. Makes sense right? As a result this product has one of the fastest scanning engines out there. In my experience I have had computers protected by an enterprise version of Trend Micro or Symantec get infected by a virus. One those same computers I would install Microsoft SE and kiss the virus good bye! Anyway, this software is called Microsoft Security Essentials and is free for home use or for up to 10 computers in a small business setting. An enterprise option is also available. Microsoft SE is for Windows XP, Vista, and 7 only. Sorry 95, 98, 2000, and ME. Before you install this software please make sure you uninstall any existing antivirus products. Having more than one AV product will result in system instability. <br /> Enjoy! <br /> <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/">http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/</a>

turn system off. power on and immediately press F8 repeatedly until you see this screen
clarkcanhelp.png\
select the "last known good configuration" and press enter. hopefully that helps and allows windows to start.
Then...
have you recently installed any software? it's possible it's causing configuration problems. try uninstalling them if you can and see if that helps too.
you can also do a system restore to restore your pc to a previous state, before this problem showed up.
hope this helps

Hi my webcam is not working, the error is the webcam is not connected,I have bought it last year,it was ok since 2 months ago , what shoud I do???

What Operating System are you using? I.E. Windows Vista or Mac OSX?
First you can make sure your cord on both ends is plugged in fully? If so, assuming its USB, plug it into another port. Restart the computer and then try it again. If this doesnt work, check to see if the software that came with the device is installed. Try uninstalling the software and reinstalling it again. This will hopefully refresh the driver and find the device if somehow lost it.
Hope this helps.

During Window Update error Code: 80073712 is found

To fix it,
Click the start pearl, type CMD on the search line, right click CMD.exe on the Menu above, click "run as Administrator". On the command line type the following command:
reg delete HKLM\COMPONENTS /v StoreDirty

also navigate to C:\Windows\winsxs, and delete a file called "Pending.xml" [its on every vista install if you can see it or not]

you will need to enable "show all files" and uncheck "protected operating system files" from "folder options" in control panel
