Question about TDK DED+840 DVD±RW Burner

1 Answer

Windows XP SP3 does not even recognize my TDK 840G DVD burner although Belarc 8.1m reports that it is there. Likewise with my NEC ND-3520A DVD burner in the same computer. When I insert a DVD disc into either drive absolutely nothing happens and Windows Explorer also does not see either DVD drive. What's up & how do I fix it? Larry

Hi when put the burner into the computer there are two connections to be made, one is for power the other is for data, once you firmly connect these two you should start the computer and go to { my computer } and look for it. If you do not see the icon in { my computer }, turn off the computer and open the case and check the connection again,if the connections seem fine unplug the power connector and plug in another one if there is extra connector in the case.Close the case and start the computer when it boot up look for the icon in my computer.

I double checked the power connectors and even switched them around among other components and nothing changed. The 2 DVD drives still are not recognized by the OS even though Belarc 8.1 sees and reports them. Got any other ideas? Larry

Hi Larry you should also use another ribbon cable "that the cable that connect the DVD drive to the motherboard" and you should also connect the DVD drives one at a time to see if any will work. If it work that would mean its power problem, and if you have access to another you can test the DVD drives in the other computer to see if the computer will recognize any of them.If the other computer does not recognize them this mean the DVD drive are faulty,DVD are call plug and play this mean they do not need any software to work if these options do not solve the problem you may have to replace them.

Remove the drive from your computer, and temporarily connect it to another desktop computer.
If it still does not work, then it's time to responsibly recycle it, and spend $40 to purchase a new CD/DVD reader/writer.

More than likely, your DVD drive requires a firmware update. Check the support section on the NEC website for instructions and downloads. The process is pretty straightforward...

ND-6750a not recognized by WinXP SP3

Try the firmware fix and driver installation on this page: http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/9706/
It looks like the "windows updates" outdated your original driver.

Have NEC 3550A DVD/rw. re-installed windows XP professional & all else.. DVD will not recognize most dvd discs.Got drivers from NEC.. still problem

Go to:
1. start > run > devmgmt.msc
2. Under DVD/CD Rom drives make sure it's installed (Uninstalled = Yellow icon)
If all drivers are applied correctly this could be a problem with the DVD Region Settings.
Go to:
1. start > run > devmgmt.msc
2. expand
3. find the device
4. right click > properties
5. go to dvd region tab
6. select the desired region
Warning: some drives only allow you to change it up to 5 or 4 times so be careful!

NEC nd 6500a

Hi, I think that it's a firmware issue. If the unit is till covered by warranty, you may have to bring it back for replacement. When doing so, it may be to your advantage to bring the PC while it is still attached and blank CDs and DVDs just to demonstrate the particular failure and likewise to be able to test if and when it would be replaced. If for some reason, you would want to try DIY, please look over these sites that you may have an idea. http://www.cdrinfo.com/forum/tm.asp?m=132275&mpage=1𠓝 http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/6500/ Hope this be of some help and pls post again how things turn up. Good luck and kind regards.

NEC-3520A Suddenly stop to burn correctly, but reads OK

Have you tried lowering the burn/erase speed? To begin, simply do what you need to do on the lowest speed, and then keep increasing until it gives the error again. This will most likely work. I had this problem and I burn now CDs at 16x.
