Have a whirlpool gold dishwasher.The problem is that the clean lite on the control panel flashes not allowing the unit to work.I installed a new disposal and forgot to remove the plug for the dishwasher drain hose.When the flood happened I opened the door in order to stop the dishwasher.Now the unit will not work.The lite flashes 7 time ,then it pauses and flashes 7 times etc.Is there a reset procedure to run in order to get the unit to work or do I need to buy a new control panel?

Your dishwasher will do this as a safety in case the element is broken and feeding electrical current into the water. Sometimes just a false reading.

Reset your console by pressing: high temp wash, heated dry, high temp wash, heated dry

When all the lights are on you are set in diagnostic mode. Just hit cancel a you will be able to run your dishwasher as normal.
If this same light appears again then you have a bad element or thermostat.

This is a common problem with Whirlpool washers.If the clean light is the one flashing then your dishwasher could have a heater circuit problem (depending on the age) or this could simply just be water colder than it is used to getting.

Repeatedly press the Heated Dry and Hi-Temp Wash(scrub) which ever yours has until all the LED lights come on, press cancel twice and try the dishwasher again making sure to run the water at the kitchen sink till it is hot before starting the dishwasher, if this trips and locks you have a problem with the heating element, or temp sensor.
Press the heated dry button followed by the normal cycle button, and then repeat once. You should see all of the lights come on for a second or two, and then the dishwasher will work again.
If you haven't already, take a look under the kick plate in front to see if there is a schematic tucked in there somewhere. Whirlpool has put their diagnostics for specific models on these.
I don't have the specific repair manual for you model.
So, if the above combination does not work here are two more that have worked for me.

HiTemp Wash + Air Dry + HiTemp Wash + Air Dry in less than 5 sec
or
Hi Temp Scrub/Scour + Air Dry + Hi Temp Scrub/Scour + Air Dry in less than 5 sec

Water is the issue.
Replace the water supply valve under the sink and water supply line to dishwasher.
Over time as you can see minerals deposit in the valve and restrict the water flow to the dishwasher.
This is especially inportant on todays water saving units.
Many people replace an old dishwasher and hate the new unit due to a white film left on dishes.

Although you may have paid for a professional installation a new shut off valve is almost never replaced even though the waterline may have been at an additional cost to you..

Now...keep in mind all dish washers are not alike and have different panel options. If you do not have the same set up as I have referenced, the tech sheet for your dishwasher will explain. The tech sheet is located behind the lower toe panel under the door and lists the proper sequence of buttons to push for diagnostics and troubleshooting.

NOTE: Sometimes the tech sheet is located behind the inner door panel. You will need to remove the screws securing the inner panel to access it if this is the case. Make sure you turn off the main power breaker before doing so.

Sometimes this can be a momentary glitch in operation. However, if the problem keeps reoccuring the number of flashes is an indication of which circuit is causing your problem. Again, refer to your tech sheet to determine this.

Make sure the control panel is not locked. If you press any pad while your dishwasher is locked, the light flashes 3 times and the selection is ignored. If the lock symbol is lit, press and hold HEATED DRY for 4 seconds. The light turns off.

If the control panel is not locked and the problem still occurs press the Cancel/Drain button to drain all water and clear all indicators. (It might take 2 minutes to complete this action.)

might be the circiut board had similar problem with my old kitchen aid unit

First press your "Sani-rinse" button and the your "Heat Dry" button and toggle between them a couple times. This will reset your control module. If the clean light continues to blink then it means that your heating element needs replacing.  This is not a big job, either. You will need to order a new element and come back for instructions if you can't figure it out quickly....
