A friend of mine has a legacy amp i think its the 4000 watt version and
has 8 gauge running to it with 2 12 in cadence super tx subs and the
subs are bridged to 4 ohm on the amp and the amp will shut off all of a
sudden when he changes songs or just in the middle of the song any ideas

If the amp shuts down with no pattern, you need to measure the DC voltage on the power terminals.
With your multimeter set to DC volts, the black meter lead on the ground terminal of the amp (not on the point where the ground wire connected to the vehicle) and the head unit on (so the amp will have remote voltage applied), touch the red lead alternately to the B+ and remote terminals of the amp. If the voltage is below ~11 volts, you need to check the wiring feeding whichever line is too low.
Since there is no pattern, you will have to watch the meter for a while so you can see the meter drop when the amp shuts off. If the meter never drops on either the remote or B+ terminals (when the amp shuts off), the amp may have an internal fault.

the Q4000 only funs 400 max and thats at 4ohms bridged 2x200 if you need high powered amps i would look at soundstream or MTX and you would need atleast 1 secondary battery cause to max a amp out you need to have constant 14.4 volts going to power the amp.
any amp will work with any speaker, you just need to make sure it is a mono amp if you are running 1 speaker and a stereo amp wither 2 or 4 channel if you are running 2 or 4 speakers, the ohm rating on the amp should match the speakers also, on the back of the speaker it has the ohm rating, most will be 8 ohm, but you still find some 4 ohm, depending on the speaker if it has a lot of throw (the in and out movement) you may want a higher wattage amp so you get clean sound, it is up to you.... if you are installing lower price amps to you may hear engine wine or noise while car is running so a grounde loop isolator installed on the system will remedy that... also with the amp the directions will tell you the ohm rating of the wire to use, follow that.... and keep the ground short and clean where ever you put it.. try not to go directly off the battery cause you will get a lot of noise... hope this helps..
All amps aren't created equal. More exspense amps put out "cleaner" power. You need to know what the RMS power rating is for the amp at 8 ohms and 4 ohms. Also, is the speaker an 8 or 4 ohm speaker? How you wire a speaker or speakers (series or paralell) can change the ohms (resistence) which will change the power put out of the amp. Also, I'm assuming you are setting it up in mono?
when in doubt go bigger, you might want to get a bigger amp down the road, so its better to not have to buy another wiring kit later.
and the bigger the wire the less line loss you will have so your amp will sound and perform better.
If you had 4 single voice coil speakers you can create either of those 2 ohm or 4 ohm setups. If you run 2 of them in parallel you will get the 4 ohms. If you run 4 of them in parallel you will get the 2 ohms. In parallel I mean that you connect the positives together and run them to the positive on the amp and the connect the negatives together and run them to the negative on the amp. If what you're telling me is correct you're trying to drive a stereo sub -woofer with a mono amplifier. If so, that could be a bad situation for the amp, if the voice coils are not wired together correctly. Before we go too far, I have some questions I need answered. 1. Is the MA unit an M1889i? 2. Do you have the 4 terminals of sub-woofer tied together. For example the 2 positive terminals are tied together & the 2 negative terminals are tied together? 3.How do you supply 12VDC to the amp?

The FX500 is 4 x 75 watts clean and 1 x 500 watts RMS @2 ohm mono. What subs are you running and what are the ohms per voice coil. Single or dual voice coil. By what you said (not getting hot) sounds to me like the load istoo much. Let me know.
