Sanyo ds24424 tv stays on for 5 min. comes back on...

posted by skunky on Apr 25, 2008

I bought this tv new 5 years ago and it worked great for 3 weeks, then it would switch off leaving a horz. line across the screen but still having sound. latter i smelled smoke and it would not do anythig after that. Took it back to wal mart but i threw my receipt away so they would not do anything about it.E-mailed sanyo with serial no.and they gave me a number to take to wal mart to have it fixed, but still would not talk to me without a receipt. So i put in a closet till a week ago. i took it apart and noticed the circuit board was cracked where the video and audio jacks were. Sodered a jump wire across the crack and replaced a diode which was smoked. Worked good for 5 min. then vert. output went out.cooled off and came back on. I used a laser temp. gun and found a large diode and 3 watt resistor getting hot, 150 degrees this was next to a power transformer. Any ideas
