Un hook l/h and r/h lift pins from both lift arms , remove front draft arm from front of deck ( it attaches under the muffler on the chassis )
discoonect the blade engage cable from arm if it uses this type or pop the deck belt off the electric pto if the tractor uses this type

you could just spin each spindle without the blade on ( but leave the top pulleys on ) if spindles bent you should see a wobble , if hard seeing it refit both blades and re-spin each spindle and check for quite a noticable variation in blade tracking when each blade is turned through a rev or two

remove deck , remove both mandrell pulleys from the top of thier shafts
remove both blades and use block of wood and knock the blade spindles out of their mandrells from the pulley side

here is website for parts
http://www.outdoordistributors.com/AYP/AYP_Main.html

just click on 917 the select 288280 from the list
it should show parts breakdown

cheers hope it helps

any problems let me know

I have a lt 1000 and when I try to engage the blades it won't. Have check every thing didn't find anything, but the lever in front of pulley don't know how it goes

Usually when someone has a problem with a lawn tractor engaging the blades it occurs because the blades are hitting the deck or the pulley shaft that connect to the blades. Or, the are bent or the deck is bent. You can make sure the blades are not bent by measuring them. 1st measure one side of the blade and then move the blade 180 degrees and measure again. 2nd do this to all blades. If the measurement is off something is bent and a service dealer should look it and advise you of your options, (at no cost). Your options will cost but not the advisement. If you need help further please contact me. Thank you.

Check your spindles, especially the shafts in the spindles. If one of them is bent, it'll make the blades vibrate as they spin. You can find replacement shafts and spindles at Partsbuggy.com.

Craftsman lt 2000, blade not staying in place

i would need a complete sears model number to look this up for you, however, you will need to remove the intire blade spindle housing, then you can remove just the shaft from the housing. and just replace the shaft. Will save a lt of money.
if you can find the complete model number you can go on the internet to

mtd.com/parts or to ayp.com/parts

and you can pull up a parts diagram and find the exact part number and order it online, or take model number to sears and they will either have it in stock or can order it for you. Sears will however cost you a fair amount more then ordering online. I hope this helps you

Need a replacement splindle for Sears LT3000

The complete spindle is called a mandrel on sears site part number 192870 $47.24. You can also get the housing all by itself and reinstall the shaft and bearings into it part number 187281 $24.60. The shaft is what the blade attaches to and can be purchased separate part number 192872 $17.84. All these parts can be purchased at a local Lawn repair shop for less money just take in these part numbers or your model number with you.

Uneven cutting

put your mower on level ground. Concrete or pavement. Check to make sure deck is setting level. If not, adjust deck. NEXT. Make sure mandrel or shaft isn't bent or broken. (this is what you bolt your blades onto and top side is where the belt runs.) If you have hit a root or rock. These will bend and break. If so, Remove and replace with good used or new one. You can purchase the housing for somewhere around 25 to 35 dollars

Craftsman 42 inch riding lawn mower is not cutting evenly

The first thing to check is your blades. If one is bent, it will never cut even. It happens a lot hitting roots, antbeds, etc. Mulching blades will bend easier than a straight blade. It's best to take them off and lay one on top of the other to see if they're bent.

Grinding when mower is engaged but no apparent damagewas found

You may have a bearing gone on one of the quills (blade shafts).

Remove the mower deck from your tractor, and check each quill for play in all directions. If there is any movement other than spinning, you will need to replace.
