No solution from me, I came because I am having the same problem! I woke up this morning to the smell of burning wires or burning plastic, I cant really tell what the burn smell is, but I know a burning smell when I smell it!! I walked all through the house, and couldn't see anything, so I started following my nose, lol and I went around unplugging things in the house, and turned the central air off. still didn't know what the smell was, I ran to the store to get coffee, and when I came back I could hardly smell it anymore, so I knew whatever it was, I took care of it by unplugging everything and shutting air off, well I really couldn't leave it alone because the smell was so strong earlier, so I went through the house again with no luck. finally I decided to turn the air on again, cuz it was getting kinda steamy in the house, seeing how it is summer and all, well it started to stink really really bad again, so I got a chair and stood on it in the hallway and put my nose in the vent that air was coming out of, and BAM!!! the smell hit me like a ton of bricks. it make me feel like passing out cuz it was so strong. Anyway, that's when I knew something is def. wrong with the central cooling unit. so I turned it off once again, now I don't really smell it anymore, but im waiting till 8:00 when my landlord office opens, then im calling her right away!!!!!!

Quite often, if you smell like a plastic burning smell, one of the capacitors is faulty, and should be checked immediately. Quite often the compressor start capacitor, will get hot and start to melt. Have it checked by qualified technician or electrician, as they are dangerous and can give a fatal shock if not experienced with handling them, even when power is shut off. $20-$30 part, and 1/2hr. labor should take care of it. The cover on roof unit, has to be removed to access the capacitors, so watch for bees, wasps, when you do so. Make sure power is off at breaker panel.

Why does my vax power 2 cylinder hoover make a noise and smell of burning rubber when I turn it on we have cleaned inside and out and all filters

That is the smell of perhaps burning insulation when there is excessive current going into motor. If something in unit is binding the motor will not spin fast enough, generate less back emf, use more current, overheat and burn out!!!!!!!!!!!

If it has a drive belt and that is rubbing up against something and not turning properly that will also cause the smell.

Do not use unit in this condition -you risk permanent damage.

I have 3 central ac units for my house. 1 for the upstairs and 1 for the west side of house and 1 for the east side of house. just had a very cold night and the east side of house vents smelled like...

To make sure that there is not a problem with your blower test it on cool. if it runs good. then start the heater on auto and it should be okay. but still supervise the operation for about 5 mins. if you still smell something burning . then call an AC Technician for help.

Hi, Pull the plug and figure out where the burning smell is coming from...something is getting very hot...
Many times a freezer and/or refrigeratordo not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many otherthings that can go wrong. If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out thelast two tips.

If your refrigerator is running but warm, then...

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to starttrouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then callinga repair person to do a simple thing for you...

It smells like something is burning smells like the gas is not burning very harsh odor that burns your eyes after a period of time

If it smells like an incomplete combustion smell, clean the burner first. I'm assuming it used to work and now doesn't? If it never worked correctly it may have the wrong jet in it. There is a jet for propane and one for natural gas. They do not interchange. If it smells like plastic burning, something probably got past the screen and fell into the burner.

Smell like a electrical smell ocassionaly coming

Its probably getting hot so you might smell the components heating up. I would try to if possible clear up some space and try cleaning the unit with a air can. Try to get dust that builds up over time

Sounds as if the door switch/latch had stuck.the smell was probably a small short. try unplugging unit. But I would imagine you need door latch/switch replaced

Right side speaker input don't work

There are a number of possibilities that can cause this. Since you smelled some burning, I would suspect that the output transistors on the right side have shorted. This can sometimes cause a resistor to burn before that section is turned off. This is a relatively simple repair for anyone familiar with those units. I have rebuilt a number of these over the years and can tell you that the repair is worth the expense. You can figure on $25-$40 in parts plus the local labor rate for the total cost.

If you have a multimeter and can solder, you may be able to repair this. This is not the easiest unit to access however, so if you are not experienced, I would not start here.

Keep me posted.

Burning smell

you can unplug the unit , and reomve the lower aces panel (3 screws along the front bottom of unit) youll probalby see an excess of lint built up in which case you can vacuum it out, and then check/clean and or replace your dryer vent
