Laptop won't recognize my ipod

Hello, I have a second hand ipod and I bought a new USB conector cord and when I plug it in to my computers ( a laptop with vista and a laptop with windows XP) the computers won't recognize that anything was plugged in. The ipod can be charged on a dock, but I want to be able to erase the crappy music the guy who sold it to me listened to. Please help. I have made sure that my usb ports are not on power save and that they are working properly. Do you have any other suggsestions? Thanks

How to start your new ipod for beginners.

Just got a new ipod, congratulations. But it doesn't work straight from the box. When you start it up the first time.a usb and itunes symbol will appear. To begin you have to have a computer or laptop with the latest itunes installed. This is required to even startup your ipod.If you have itunes installed plug usb cable from ipod into computer or laptop and itunes will recognize your ipod and begin sync.Keep in mind this first sync will join this ipod with itunes on this computer or laptop then you can name it and do settings.

You can connect your iPod to laptop through a USB cable. If you mean you laptop can recognize your iPod, you can follow these steps to fix the problem.
1. Try another USB cord or USB cable.
2. Restrart your computer for a try.
3. Reset or restore your iPod for a try, this way can fix many general iPod problems.
4. Update your iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
5. You may try this iPod transfer, it's a nice iTunes alternative that can help you upload music and video to iPod, I always use it to sync my iPod when my iTunes can't recognize my iPod, it's easy to use and works pretty well

How do i connect my Hannspree 22" monitor to my Dell Inspiron 1150 Laptop?

On the back of your laptop there is a vga connector, to the left are two(2) usb connectors and the right is your network connector . You need a vga cord (if you bought the monitor new it should include one.) Plug the cord into this port and into the back of the monitor. Plug the monitor in and the laptop should recognize thatthere is an external monitor connected and switch the video output to that monitor.

IPod Nano not recognized when plugged to USB

Make sure your not pluged into a USB hub. It will work if its plugged directly into a USB port on your computer.

If you are having issues accessing the drive i've encountered that situation before

I tried a different cord and it started working again. Additionally i've had this work for me (see below)

Try This:

  1. Unplug all USB devices
  2. Turn off Ext Hard drive
  3. Shut down computer
  4. Power on ext hard drive (then wait like 1 min)
  5. Turn on computer
  6. Wait for windows to finish loading
  7. Plug in the USB cord from the ext hard drive to your computer (may take up to a minute for computer to recognize it)
  8. If it doesn't recognize it then keep trying it in different USB ports
If it still won't recognize get all the latest windows update and reboot. If that doesn't solve your issue try your external hard drive on some other computers, check to see if drive needs special drivers installed (which most don't).

From SimpleTech's website: "1) I have the drive plugged in but I cannot find the drive in "My Computer", why?
The most likely cause would be not enough power provided by a single USB port on your computer. Unplug the portable drive from the cable and unplug the cable from the computer. Now, plug the cable into 2 USB ports directly on your computer. (If you have a desktop, you should plug the USB cable directly into the USB ports on the back of the computer. If this is a laptop, you should plug directly into a USB ports on the computer. Do not plug into a USB hub or docking station). Then plug the drive into the cable. In a few seconds you should see the drive listed in the "My Computer" window as a SimpleDrivePS."

If all that fails you need to RMA (Return to Manufacturer) your external hard drive. Most hard drives have a pretty decent warranty on them. Your simpletech 250GB has a 3 year warranty on it. Info on the warranty can be found at http://www.simpletech.com/support/warranty/. If you want to RMA it, click the "Technical Support / RMA Request" on the left hand side of that page.
