Question about Whirlpool 25.3 Cu. Ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with Thru-the-Door Ice and Water - White-on-White

Items freezing in the refrigerator

We have had our refrigerator for about 3 weeks. It has been working fine, but today we noticed items in the bottom drawer and on the shelf were beginning to freeze. There is also ice around the vent to the freezer. The refrigerator and freezer are set by factory at 0 and 37. This temp was fine for the first two weeks. Do you think there is a problem? Or should we just adjust the temp in frig?

Due to the ice on the vent ( damper ) , the damper is probably frozen open , so it will not close , causing the refrig section to keep on getting colder . Put your hand over the vent and feel the air being circulated . Use a hair dryer on the vent for a time and ocassionally feel the vent to see if the vent closes stopping the air flow .

Top is over freexing and bottom is no longer freezing. It was working fine and we noticed this today.

There could be a simple fix. Maybe the controls got changed during cleaning. If both of the controls on the freezer and the refrigerator are at a medium setting everything controlwise should be ok.If the top is freezing lower control setting.

2 weeks ago the ice box was not cooling.. We turned off and back on and it worked fine except the bottom shelv in fridge was freezing items.. Now my freezer is not working.. tried the off and on and it...

Could be a defrost problem. When the coils get froze over it quits coling. Turning it off will temporarily defrost a portion of the coils and it works for awhile. Check behind the freezer wall for frost buildup. If it is, you will have to determine if the timer, heater or termination thermostat is the culprit.

Freezer not blowing air - bad smell in fridge

Your automatic defroster coil is open and needs to be replaced along with the fan in the freezer that blows the cold air around and also blows air into refrigerator.

Bad smell down below is food rotting in that section because it is not cold enough.

GE Refrigerator Freezer warm

the frost on the back wall of the freezer is the clue to the problem. it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer/control board
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.

most likely the drain is plugged try using some low pressure compressed air to blow out the tube, yes the heater is what defrosts, no hot gas, other than that the icemaker fill tube could be leaking, freezing the drain.

Kenmore 596.75509400 bottom freezer

JH, did you notice if the freezer back panel was full of frost first time it started thawing? If so you may have a defrost problem. I've had 4 of these control boards (jazz boards) fail on this model in the last week. Behind the front grill, there should be a tech sheet that will show you how to run the componet tests at the control board. Part number for the board is 12002339. This board controls compressor, defrost, damper and fans. Catriver.
