HLP6163W-loud annoying noise comes from the back, tv shuts off, three lights flash
TV is made in 2004. On 1/1/08 I bought a new lamp because I was hearing noise and seeing flashing lights/poor picture. After only about 3 months I started hearing the noise again (usually for a few minutes after turning the TV on after it was powered off for a couple hours) thinking it may be the color wheel. Now, the noise has become really loud and annoying, the TV powers off, all three lights flash. The lamp doesn't even turn on now, but when it did: the screen would display all kinds of colors. It doesn't appear that the lamp is defective after looking at it closely. What would be the diagnosis? Color wheel? Base Socket? Thank you for reply.

HLP, HCN HL-S The Start-up Problem or/and 3 LEDs in the front blinking. Unplug the set, pull out the lamp module (not all the way - leave it on the track) and push it back in. Power issues (Tv not turning on) were typically due to faulty ballast. While the TV reports a bad lamp it is the ballast itself causing the issue. Samsung is well aware and will replace both the ballast and the lamp (since the lamp can be prematurely aged but the bad ballast). After replacment most people stop having issues.
Does the menu come up?
If it does, then, the source could be the problem, such as the cable or DVD player. If the source is not the issue, then, the problem would be in the Digital or Analog PCBs.
If the menu does not come on, then, the problem is more than likely the DMD.
If it is not the source then call a local authorized Samsung servicer in your area. Contact 1-800-Samsung.
Hope this helps.
