Question about Xerox Phaser 6130 Laser Printer

1 Answer

Test page There are frequent power outages in my district. Every time the power goes out and then comes back on, the printer prints out a two page test page in colour. This is waste of paper and toner. Is there any way to arrest this tendency?

Yes...Dont let the power get cut from your printer before you switch it off.
Use a UPS battery backup, this comes with software to shut your pc down if you are not at the pc when the power is cut.
Switch the printer off when not in use.

Your problem was due to power outages...................

If you have no way of preventing this, plugging the printer into a UPS will stop it from having the power cut to it, and you wont get the problem of wasted paper and ink.

    thanks for the unhelpfull rating

This is a useless suggestion. The inherent voltage spike associated with a restart of a printer that uses heat to transfer or affix image to the page will blow the fuse on the UPS most of the time on reboot.

HP printers frequently time how long a page takes to run through the machine. If it is too slow, they signal a jam error.

Try cleaning all the rollers and pinch wheels etc within the laser.

I just inserted new ink jets into my Canon MP 490. When I request a print test page, it goes through the motions but the page is blank.

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent ink drying out and blocking the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer than replace the print head.

I work for a school district, Macintosh environment. A networked laserjet 1320n printer prints out test pages at random. How can I stop this?

Hi. This is tricky to diagnose so just a few general thoughts.
1. The obvious thing is that the printer could have developed a fault and its own processor is causing it to happen.
2. Someone sending a print job is also sending a command (unknown to them) to tell the printer to print the test pages.
3. This is what I think is probably happening. Some printers are set to print out a test page when they are powered up, the two HPs that we have and the Apple laser we had before all did that. What could be happening is that there is a problem with the mains socket or lead - perhaps it's loose? and the power is going off periodically - even for just a moment or two. When the power comes back on - the printer prints out the test.
Let me know if I'm close.

My computer says that my printer is offline.

Please follow the steps given below to perform a self test on the printer:

1. Switch off the printer.
2. Press and hold down the paper feed button.
3. While keeping the paper feed button depressed, turn the power back on.
4. When the printer starts to print, release the paper feed button.
5. When the first page is printed, switch off the power (otherwise the printer will keep on printing).

Power went out and back on; now printer won't print

I had the same problem after a resent power outage. Here's what fixed mine.

Turn the power switch off.
Wait a 15-20 seconds
While holding the button on the front panel down turn the power switch on.
After the drum light comes on release the button wait then press the button again.
Turn the machine off then back on again and you should be back in business.

To prevent the problem in the future if you are not using the printer turn it off and if the power goes off while printing get the printer turned off before the power comes back.
