Question about Craftsman Garden

1 Answer

My Craftsman GT 6000 (20 Hp) lawn tractor has lost its front wheel. The cotter pin is worn and loose; it has fallen out of the slot and will not securely sit in place. The cotter pin is ring like, it measures 5/8" inside to fit the shaft slot and the shaft measures 3/4". You would think this would be a common part! This lawn tractor is about 20 years old, and the best little machine you'd ever want.

The item you are referring to is called a snap ring. You can purchase a small collection of snap rings from you local hardware store or automotive dealer. These snap rings can be viewed at the bottom of this filehttp://www.rotorclip.com/cat_pdfs/de.pdf or ordered from http://www.rotorclip.com/.
These links should get you the information you need to go to the local hardware store and get your parts.

There is a brake assy. located on your transaxle right rear side. There is a nut with a cotter pin. First check to make sure there is no debris clogging the assy. Clean it first. you can use a garden hose. If that does not work remove cotter pin and turn nut clockwise until slotted nut lines up with hole. replace cotter pin. Start mower and see if it will engage. these transaxles are notorious for not having the pads snug enough to catch. Good luck. Hope you don't need a new transaxle.

Hit fence and right front tire is towing out. how do you get the alignment right?

kevin plumag, you may have bent the tie rod. It's an easy fix: each end of the tie rod connects to the axle, keeping the wheels at the right distance. Each end of the tie rod has a small cotter pin. Remove the cotter pin (a washer will fall off), lift out the bent tie rod, and put a new one back in, reinstalling the washer and cotter pin on each end.If your tie rod is straight, something else is wrong (which is why I'm searching the boards!). You can order a tie rod from Sears; check your manual for the part number.

How do i take the deck out from the mower

Catfish howdy,

If it's a craftsman there should be cotter pins to detach the deck on the arms of the deck and then just slip the belt off the main drive pully near the front of the tractor.

Adjusting front wheels

Grease the zerks with a general grease, tighten any loose points, check your wheel bushings. They might be worn, causing the wheels to camber or off-toe.

Problem for Craftsman 20 hp 42 in. Deck Lawn Tractor - ca model wheel alignment: both wheels point outwards

the bar connecting the wheels is bent. this is easy to change. just pull the pins out on both sides and lift the rod out. you can straighten it in a vise or order a new one through sears. cost about $12. our local repair shop keeps them on hand.
