I overlooked the installation cd for the drivers. Everything was fine after they were installed from the cd. Thanks for your quick response.

How do i connect to internet

You have a wired ethernet card (not wireless). You need to plug the ethernet cable into the card. An ethernet cable, also known as an RJ45 cable because its ends are RJ45, looks like a fat phone plug. Phone cords have 6 copper conductors while an RJ45 has 8. You plug one end into your ISP's hardware, which is probably a cable modem or a DSL modem. Plug the other end into the back of your computer. When you plug in the second end, both computer and modem should get a green light to show the cable is connected. If you don't get green lights, try another cable. These cables sell online for $2 to $10 based on length and run from 1 foot to 300 feet. Make sure your control_panel => network => adapter settings are set to "obtain IP address".

I hope that gets you further. Its a very vague and early stage you are at.

Only one of the ports of the Linksys NR041 model router is working at a time. If I connect subsequent RJ45 cables to the rest of the availabe ports, there is no internet connection achieved with 3/4 ports...

Hi,

Improve the Fixya.com experience for everyone by voting!

It is possible that you have bad router or defective cables. My company installs LAN (Local Area Network) systems and we fabricate own cables. They test with a specialized tester that you don't have available.

If your router and cables are functional, there is one other quick fix.

The solution I'm suggesting works in my business (LAN installations) about 95% of the time. I trust that it will work for you.

Let's see if I can help you.

Begin by turning on the second computer and your router

? Open Internet Explorer;
? Click on 'Tools';
? Click on 'Internet Options';
? Click on 'Connections';
? Click on 'Setup'
? Click on 'I want to set up my Internet connections manually . . .';
? Click on 'Next';
? Click on 'I connect through a local area network (LAN);
? Clock on 'Next'
? Click on 'Next' [This is not an error];
? Click on 'No';
? Click on 'Next';
? Click on 'To connect to the Internet immediately . . .; and,
? Click on 'Finish'.

That should have you online

All the best

Ben

I want to connect a CAT5e Ethernet cable (with or without a RJ45 connector) from a DSL router to an older computer that only has a RJ11 input. This will be used for DSL internet service only -- no...

The only "outputs" from a DSL-router are:
* RJ-11 telephone-jack, only if the router also supports voice-over-IP,
* RJ-45 Ethernet port (always present)

You need to purchase an internal network-card, to create an RJ-45 port on the computer, and then use the CAT-5e cable to make the connection.

HOW DO I CONNECT MY BLU RAY PLAYERS BDP S360 & BDP S1E TO A COMPUTER AND INTERNET ??? WHAT TYPE OF CABLES SHOULD I USE FOR CONNECTING THESE TYPE OF PLAYERS TO A COMPUTER ??? THANKS !!!

With the BDP S360 there is a port titled 'LAN'. With this port you need an ethernet (RJ45) cable which you can plug into your router or computer. If you plug it into your computer, you will need to bridge the connections to send the internet connection through the LAN cable. There's a good tutorial on how to do this here: http://helpdeskgeek.com/windows-7/bridge-network-connections-in-windows-7/ OR for XP: http://www.home-network-help.com/network-bridge.html
As for your BDP S1E player, you are unable to connect it to the internet.
Good Luck! -AC

A cable is not plugged into the network Adapter "Local Area onnection" where is the local area connection suppose to go?

This just means, that you don;t have a phone line, or a RJ45 line
plugged into the computer.

If you have a cable modem, then a line (rj45) runs from the modem
to the Ethernet port in the back of the computer.

You need to plug something in or us wireless to get on to the internet.

So it depends on what service you have depends on what you plug it.

If you need anymore help just post back, let us know what service you use.

Cable,phone, satellite.

Router with RJ45 cable port available

Nowadays most routers come with RJ45 connectors. That is a connector for network cable.
You might be talking about a serial port, found on many security systems.
If you want to connect the security system, you need a serial cable to connect the security system with your computer, and thru a specialized software (more certain provided by the security equipment, be able to perform the task you have in mind.

How to connect 2 PC at a time one of the PC has internet connection i want to communicate both PC I have windows XP sp2?

You can use hub for that matter. Use RJ-45 Cables (Crossover) for connecting just two computers and connect each unit with the cable inserted from your cpu to the hub. To create an RJ45 local area network in Windows, you will need: Several computers running Windows (computers running two different versions of Windows can be part of the same network);
Ethernet cards on a PCI or ISA port (with an RJ45 plug) or built into the motherboard. When applicable, make sure the diodes on the back of the network card light up when the computer is on and that a cable is plugged in.
