  1. Step 1 Remove the natural gas inlet from the back of the dryer using a hand wrench.
  2. Step 2 Wrap thread tape around the threads of the orifice converter and thread into the inlet. Tighten with a hand wrench. In some conversion orifice kits, there may be an adjusting screw on the top that will need to be closed by turning clockwise until it bottoms out.
  3. Step 3 Check the owner's manual of the dryer to see if there is an internal valve that may need to be switched over from natural gas to propane. This valve would adjust the BTUs of the burner if it's even present. Many new dryers just need the orifice to convert the pipe size coming from the propane gas lines to the inlet of the dryer. If there is a valve, locate it and turn it to LP or propane. Some of these valves may require taking panels off of the dryer to locate them.
  4. Step 4 Wrap thread tape on the outlet of the orifice and move the dryer into place, leaving enough room to attach the propane piping. There will be some flexibility in the piping, but don't move it excessively.
  5. Step 5 Screw the pipe coupling to the orifice outlet and tighten securely. Move the dryer to the position you want it, making sure the exhaust tube is attached securely. Open the propane on/off valve on the pipe and sniff for leaks.

How do I change the orifice on my kenmore dryer from natural to a LP orifice?

More and more, you have to change the gas valve AND the orifice due to the liability issue of changing only the orifice and not doing a complete conversion. If, and this might be a big if, a conversion kit is available, you will need the model # of your dryer to order it. The kit will come with a spring and a tension nut for the gas valve and the orifice you need. Instructions will come with the kit. Follow them to the letter. An improperly installed conversion kit, or just changing the orifice, can be very dangerous. LP operates at a higher pressure than the natural gas the dryer was built to use, and an improper conversion presents a significant fire hazard.

Can you covert convection ovens from propane

Determine the make and model of your dryer. You want to make sure you get the correct conversion kit for your dryer. Get one that is specifically for your dryer, not a universal kit.
Buy a conversion kit for your dryer. You will probably find one at a local hardware storemag-glass_10x10.gif .You can also find them online. It is probably advantageous to buy it locally because the dealer has experience installing these and can be a great asset. The kit will probably come in an envelope and will be marked something to the effect of “Conversion Kit Nat. Gas to L.P. Gas for XXXX series dryers”.

1)Shut off the gas supply to the dryer and make sure the power cord is unplugged.
2)Access the gas controls assembly in the dryer. This will be different for different brands of dryers. The instructions with the conversion kit should tell you exactly how to do this for your dryer.
3)Turn on the gas supply and check for leaks using a liquid soap solution and / or a leak tester.
4)Activate the dryer gas valve. Check to make sure the manifold pressure is correct and if not, adjust the regulator setting. Again, check for leaks.
5)Adjust the main burner flame as directed in the instructions with your gas conversion kit.

I need access to gas valve in my Maytag mdg5500aww dryer

When I posted the question, I had not removed the front of the dryer. I thought the gas burner etc. had to be accessed from the back. As soon as I removed the front of the dryer I realized it was all up front and accessable. Conversion was straight forward from that point.

Propane adaptor kit for a Samsung dryer

MAL9000AXX is a part that can be ordered there are a couple companies that stock it , Marcone Appliance parts, Reliable Parts, and Appliance parts depot too name a few it retails for about $22.00 try calling a local parts distributor if these names don't sound familiar, Maytag was making dryers for Samsung for quite awhile and that is the most common conversion kit, so I think you'll be fine if you get that kit, good luck.

How do you install an LP conversion kit on a Samsung dryer

kit comes with minimal instructions. you need to remove the burner which requires removal of the top panel, control panel and front panel. (see how do I remove front panel on samsung dryer for more details). It is fairly easy, maybe an hour the first time you have done it. Pay attention to all of the instructions re the burner, do not losen any of the gas tight fittings!
