Your denon amp amp does not match and work well in some players for instance "Samsung" no pictures and sound via HDMI input. Only replacing players to another brand such as LG can fix the problem.
Try using windows media player or Real player to play a DVD and see if you get sound. If not try doing windows update <start> <program> <windows update> Updates usually fix that sort of thing. If nothing helps then look up on the web for DVD decoder for your Operating system. Keep me posted.
If the display is showing as optical/PCM, then the input signal is in 2 Ch Stereo.
Try to change the signal from the source i.e. the DVD player, On the remote, go to audio and press repatedly , the audio would change from audio1, audio 2 .... and so on, depending upon how may have been recorded on the DVD. If the DVD is recorded in Dolby Digital, it may show the audio as Dolby Digital 5.1 on you monitor. Once this setting has been done, your Receiver should automatically detect it and show as Optical/Dolby digital.
Hi, no, this is not the normal display. It should indicate the digital sound format like DD or DTS, etc. If it is displaying PCM, this is probably due to the audio settings on your DVD player. Please provide your DVD make and model, and I will look to find the solution.
have you turned it on from the dvd menu the easist way to tell if you have is there will be little speakers that light up on your amps screen (more than two) when the movie is playing (not The menu) Not all movies are encoded in DTS hopefully this helps
Also...If your BluRay player only has a optical output for audio you will need to swap the inputs on the JVC rx-5020v. Press the "settings" button repeatedly until "digital in" appears on the display. Now use the "adjust" up and down buttons until DVD is selected as option 2. It will look like something like:
1CD2DVD
Note: this may bugger any other previous setup you have.
There are probably several sound settings on the receiver : Dolby surround , stereo, theater, SACD etc. Try another setting other than the one you have
