Question about Computers & Internet
Before you do anything else, using your own (or a friend's) external monitor, connect your laptop to the monitor and see if the display looks the same as your laptop dos. Sometimes, once the cable is attached, you have to look up along the top of the keyboard at the F keys and see if one looks like a symbol for a monitor. If it does, you need to hold down th fn key and then press that F key to transfer the display signal.
If the external monitor shows a regular display of your laptop's screen, then you know that the problem is either the Screen Inverter, or LCD. As a laptop repair specialist, I always replace both because the inverter is right below the LCD panel behind the "frame" that goes around your LCD (screen).
If the external monitor looks exactly the same as your laptop screen with the same problem, then you know that the Video chip or card on the motherboard is about to fail and needs to be replaced. You then have the choice of replacing the entire motherboard or sending the laptop to a company that specializes in motherboard repair. Many can be found on eBay (I use them myself if the Video chip is soldered to the motherboard).
If the video chip is not soldered, it alone can be replaced. Some of them can be very expensive, all depending on your laptop model.
By going by the above diagnostic method and doing a little research, you'll be well enough informed to make the right decision for your own circumstances. I'll cast my vote that it's only the screen. :)
