Question about Singer 8280 Mechanical Sewing Machine

1 Answer

Hi my singer machine is jamming. I am making Rowan blinds and I think the machine struggled as I tryed to push too much material through it (I was all gathering on the right hand side of the machine). It has jammed and will not work properly. You can turn the handle by hand but it is very stiff especially when the needle is coming back up. The foot pedal will not work at all. I've stook of the plate and cleaned with a brush. Oil the bobbin bit. Look for thread which I can't see any of and changed to needle still no joy. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi. Chances are all of that hard use has stretched the belt which now needs to be replaced. Probably time for a tuneup. J.

The hand wheel is now totally jammed and the needle will not come up. It will work (stiffly) if the turn it the other way. Does this still figure for a stretched belt?

The blind stitch would look like a couple of straight stitches and then a :"V" shaped zig-zag that will zag left to catch the very edge of the folded fabric.

Blind hem foot can not be attached to my machine

I downloaded and took a look at your user's manual, to get an idea of the problem. Apparently, the blind hem foot that you have is a screw on foot rather than a snap on foot. I don't know if you have tried to lower the foot when you are trying to change it; if that still doesn't work, you might think about getting a snap-on foot instead, and leaving the top part of the foot stationary.

It's also possible that your buttonhole foot CAN go up a little more; you might try bring it ALL the way down, then "smacking" it up to see if it won't go up just a little more. You might also consider a right-angle screwdriver to get the screw off.

I push on the pedal but the needle doesn't move up and down. The machine makes a sound like it is working but nothing moves. The machine works if I manually turn the wheel. I get an error of c4 which means...

Sounds like the thread on top and the thread in the bobbin have knotted up or some of the material under the foot has gotten bound up under the plate.

I am sewing stretch jersey and my needle keeps breaking with a terrible noise - I have a singer 2250? any ideas?

you need to use a stabilizer because the needle is pushing the material into the bobbin shaft and jamming it. Clean it out and oil your machine. Insert a new needle and totally rethread.

SINGER CURVY: It jammed while sewing felt. Taking apart the bobbin area, I can see that the needle hits the bottom of the "floor". The bobbin is not catching or moving.

I think that your should try a new needle, it may be bent or have burr on it. It problem persists call Singer at 1-800-4singer, good luck

Wads of Thread Caught in Singer Simple Sewing Machine

Sounds like you threaded it wrong and kept trying to sew, gently get all of your material out of the machine, DO NOT FORCE, GENTLY ROCK IT OUT OR YOU WILL WRECK THE MACHINE, also watch your dvd and learn about threading from your book. Always, hold your thread ends when you start to sew. If, you cannot find your manual go to, I have sewn for 50+ years and found that the dvd was very helpful, each machine is different.

Bought blind hem stitch for a 3116 singer and the needle hits it

I think you may have to make an adjustment on your blind hem foot, it also could be the wrong fit for your machine.

Struggling setup

just a thought but try making the presser foot not push to tight on the material. most unit's have some sort of a knob to change this.
